Wide Leg Trouser in Regenerative Cotton Stretch Denim with a Low Rise and a Button Fly

The Nora Trouser from Citizens of Humanity in a deep indigo wash, cut from a stretchy denim with a relaxed wide leg and a low rise, listed at 320 GBP with six of eight sizes left. Its chart is three lines long and it is the most extreme this run has met, because two of the three lines do not move at all. The inseam is 80 centimetres at every size from 24 to 31. The total length is 106 centimetres at every size from 24 to 31. Eight sizes, two dimensions, both frozen. And that produces something this run has not been able to do before, because when a page publishes both an inseam and an outseam, the difference between them is the rise. One hundred and six minus eighty is twenty six centimetres, which is about 10.2 inches. That is a mid rise on any ordinary scale. And the page calls this garment a low rise, in the description and again in the bullet. So the page contradicts itself, and it does so using two numbers it published itself. The other thing worth setting out is the fibre panel, because it is the most informative one in this run and it quietly explains the care label. It reads 81% regenerative cotton, 14% lyocell, 3% elastomultiester and 2% elastane. Elastomultiester is a specific elastic fibre with a specific property: it tolerates heat far better than elastane does. And this is the only garment in this entire run whose care label permits tumble drying. Those two facts are the same fact. The reference is the Nora Trouser in Nocturnal. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable denim and trousers on OEM and ODM terms, from cloth sourcing by weight and stretch to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

The waist figures are flat half measures taken with the trousers laid down, doubling to 68, 70, 72, 74, 76, 80, 84 and 88 cm around, or 26.77, 27.56, 28.35, 29.13, 29.92, 31.50, 33.07 and 34.65 in. Against the label sizes of 24 to 31 in, the ease is about 2.77, 2.56, 2.35, 2.13, 1.92, 2.50, 3.07 and 3.65 in, so it falls by about 0.21 in per size up to 28 and then reverses and climbs by about 0.57 in per size. The waist steps 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2 and 2 cm, which no uniform grade produces. The inseam is 80 cm and the total length is 106 cm at all eight sizes, so the rise works out at about 26 cm, or about 10.2 in, at every size.

Occasions and Styling

Suits autumn and winter and everyday dressing. A deep indigo wide leg in a soft stretch denim is the kind of jean worn with a knit and a boot, and the drape makes it work dressed up as well as down.

Production and Quality Control

The reference publishes three columns for all eight sizes, gives a model height and the size worn, states four fibres to the percentage and names an elastic fibre by its proper technical name, describes the cloth, the rise, the leg and the wash, gives a fit word, gives a care instruction that includes a drying setting, names the country of production and names the style and colour codes. It gives no cloth weight, no stretch percentage or recovery, no hip, thigh, knee or leg opening measurement, no rise measurement, no button specification, no colourfastness, no size conversion and no certification for its regenerative claim, publishes no fit guidance beyond one word and carries one photograph. Three things follow: the two frozen dimensions and the rise they give away, the fibre panel that explains the care label, and the claim with nothing behind it.

Eighty, and one hundred and six, and that is the first thing, and this run has met frozen dimensions before but never on this scale. The inseam is 80 centimetres at every size from 24 to 31. The total length is 106 centimetres at every size from 24 to 31. Eight consecutive sizes, two dimensions, both unmoving. This run has now found frozen figures on six garments and has said each time that a number repeated across sizes is a fact about the pattern rather than a mistake in the typing, and eight repetitions settles this one beyond argument. Now, a fixed inseam across a waist range is not unusual for jeans, and this run will say so rather than pretend otherwise: many brands run one leg length across the whole waist range. But two things follow from it here, and the first is a small credit. Because the leg length is the same at every size and the model's height is given as five foot ten, which is about 178 centimetres, a customer at any size can work out where the hem will fall on her. That is genuinely useful and this run has not been able to say it about any other frozen dimension, because none of the others came with a model height. The second thing is the finding, and it is the reason this run is putting it first. When a page publishes both an inseam and an outseam, the difference between them is the rise. One hundred and six minus eighty is twenty six centimetres, which is about 10.2 inches. And this run knows roughly where that sits, because rises have a working scale: a low rise is around seven to eight inches, a mid rise around nine to ten, and a high rise around eleven or twelve. Twenty six centimetres, or 10.2 inches, is a mid rise. And the page calls this a low rise. It says low rise in the description and it says low rise again in the bullet. So the page's own two published numbers give a rise that is not what the page's own words say it is, and the customer can find that out, except that nobody has done the subtraction for her. It is worth being honest about the limits of this: the rise is not published, so this is derived, and it assumes the total length is measured down the side seam. The true front rise may differ by a centimetre or two. But it would have to differ by four or five centimetres for low rise to be right, and that is not a margin this run is willing to grant. And there is a second consequence of the freezing that matters as much. If both the inseam and the outseam are fixed, then the rise is fixed too. So the rise is 26 centimetres at size 24 and 26 centimetres at size 31, while the waist goes from 68 centimetres around to 88. A rise that does not move across a waist range of twenty centimetres means the trousers are cut for one body shape and simply widened for everyone else, and nothing on the page says so.

One, one, one, one, two, two, two, and that is the second thing, and it is the third time this run has found a grade that changes partway and the first time it has found one that goes the helpful way. The waist reads 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 42 and 44, so it steps one centimetre for the first five sizes and then two centimetres for the last three. No uniform grade reproduces that, so the column fails the run's test, but the failure is informative rather than careless, and the run can show exactly what it does by applying the arithmetic it worked out last batch. For jeans, the label size goes up one inch at a time, so holding the fit steady means giving back one inch of circumference per size, which is 2.54 centimetres of circumference, which is 1.27 centimetres of flat measure. Over the first five sizes the Nora grades one centimetre. One centimetre of flat measure is 0.79 inches of circumference against a body that took one inch, so the ease should fall by about 0.21 inches per size. And measured, it does exactly that: 2.77, 2.56, 2.35, 2.13, 1.92, each step losing about 0.21. Over the last three sizes it grades two centimetres, which is 1.57 inches of circumference against a body that took one, so the ease should gain about 0.57 inches per size. And measured, it does exactly that too: 1.92, then 2.50, then 3.07, then 3.65. So the run's arithmetic now predicts the behaviour of a chart it has never seen, in both directions, to within a hundredth of an inch. That is the strongest confirmation it could ask for, and it means the rule is not a coincidence of one garment. And what the rule says about this garment is that the fit is not the same anywhere in the range. The ease runs from about 2.77 inches at a size 24 down to about 1.92 at a size 28, which is the tightest point in the whole range, and then back up to about 3.65 at a size 31, which is the loosest. So the customer at the largest size gets nearly twice as much room as the customer at 28, and the loosest waist in the range is at the top rather than the bottom. And the page calls the whole thing relaxed, in one word, for all eight sizes. It is worth adding that there is 2% elastane and 3% elastomultiester here, so there is stretch, and a tight-ish waist is more forgiving than it would be on a rigid denim. But that makes the point rather than answering it: the amount of stretch is what would let a customer judge this, and it is not published, and neither is the recovery. This run has been asking for stretch and recovery figures on every elastic garment it has met and has been refused every time, including here.

Elastomultiester, and that is the third thing, and it is a genuine credit in a run that has had few. The fibre panel reads 81% regenerative cotton, 14% lyocell, 3% elastomultiester and 2% elastane. Elastomultiester is not a marketing word. It is the proper technical name for a specific elastic fibre, and it is the only time in this entire run that a page has named an elastic fibre with anything other than elastane or spandex. And it matters here, because elastomultiester tolerates heat considerably better than elastane does. Elastane is damaged by heat, which is why this run has spent batches noting that tumble drying and elastic fibres do not go together, and why garment after garment in this run says do not tumble dry. And this garment's care label says machine wash cold and tumble dry low. It is the only garment in this run permitted to tumble dry at all. Those two facts are one fact: the brand chose a heat tolerant elastic fibre and was then able to write a care label that allows tumble drying. This run has no way to know whether that was deliberate, but it is the only explanation consistent with the panel, and it is worth crediting because the alternative reading would be a brand tumble drying 2% elastane, which would be a mistake. And nobody says any of it. The care label gives the instruction and not the reason, which is the same omission this run found on the dry clean only garments last batch, where the reasons were visible on the page and never stated. It is worth adding the 14% lyocell, because it does the same kind of quiet work. The description says soft yet durable, soft structure, all day comfort and a naturally relaxed drape. Soft appears three times. Lyocell is in the cloth at 14% and is there precisely to give softness and drape. The page says the effect three times and names the cause once, in a panel at the bottom, and never connects the two. And no lyocell brand or certification is named, which is worth noting because lyocell is a branded fibre with well known certification behind it. It is worth closing on the claim that has nothing behind it, which is the biggest one on the page. The cotton is described as regenerative. Regenerative agriculture is a strong environmental claim, and there are programmes that certify it, and brands making the claim normally name the programme and often the farms and the acreage. This page names none of it: no programme, no certifier, no farm, no acreage, no percentage verified. And this run can now place that precisely, because last batch it met a different unbacked claim and the two are not the same kind. A T-shirt said organic cotton with no certifier, and organic is a regulated claim, so naming the certifier is not optional. Regenerative is a voluntary claim, so a brand may make it without joining anything. But that is exactly why it needs a programme behind it, because with nothing named there is nothing to check. So this run has now met the strongest unbacked claim of each kind. It is worth ending on what is not measured, because the garment is called a wide leg and the leg is not measured at all. There is no leg opening, no thigh, no knee and no hip. The chart has three columns and the only width in it is the waist. For a trouser whose defining feature is that the leg is wide, the measurement that defines it is absent. And there is one photograph, at 320 GBP, of a garment with a wide leg, a button fly and an indigo wash with fading, and nobody photographed any of them closely. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.

Optional upgrades include quoting the cloth weight in ounces, publishing the stretch percentage and the recovery, publishing the rise at every size and grading it across the range, adding hip, thigh, knee and leg opening measurements, naming the regenerative programme and the certifier and giving the verified percentage, naming the lyocell brand and its certification, grading the waist at about 1.27 cm per size so the fit holds steady, giving the wash process and a colourfastness grade, giving the button count and size, adding a size conversion and fit guidance, replacing cold with a temperature in degrees, a rigid denim, a lighter and a heavier stretch denim, organic and conventional and recycled cotton, mid and high rise options, straight, tapered and barrel leg options, raw indigo, black and lighter washes, a zip fly, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.

Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
