The Jane Pant from Carhartt WIP, a five-pocket jean in heavyweight organic cotton denim with a loose fit and a high waist, bartack stitching at the stress points and a woven square label on the back pocket, listed at 95 GBP in eight waist sizes. This run is publishing a second jean from the same brand at the same time, in the same season, made in the same country and ten pounds cheaper, and the comparison is the most useful thing this run has been handed, because it supplies a control for nearly every gap on this page. The clearest one is the cloth. This jean is called heavyweight and no weight is given, and denim has its own unit, ounces per square yard, which the whole trade uses. The other jean, published alongside it, states 13.5 oz. So the brand knows the unit and uses it on one jean and not on the other, which tells a reader that the missing number was not unavailable, only omitted. The same thing happens with the care label, with the model information, and with the rise. The other thing worth setting out is that this is non-stretch denim and the page publishes two of the seven measurements that denim is normally specified by. The reference is the Jane Pant in Blue Rinsed. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable denim on OEM and ODM terms, from cloth sourcing by weight and finish to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

The waist figures are flat half measures taken with the jean laid down, doubling to 66, 70, 74, 76, 78, 80, 82 and 84 cm around, or 25.98, 27.56, 29.13, 29.92, 30.71, 31.50, 32.28 and 33.07 in, so the garment runs about one to two inches larger than the number on its own label. The steps are 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 and 1 cm and no uniform grade produces them. The inside leg is 80 cm on the three smallest sizes and 81 cm on the other five, which is a grade of about two millimetres per size.

Occasions and Styling
Suits all year round and everyday dressing. A loose dark indigo jean with a high waist is the pair that goes from a weekend to an office, and the clean dark colour is what makes it versatile.
Production and Quality Control
The reference publishes two columns for all eight sizes, states the shell and the pocket lining separately, names the cloth, the fit, the waist, the pockets and the closure, describes the bartack construction and the trims, gives a care instruction, names the country of production and carries six photographs. It gives no denim weight, no hip, no rise, no thigh, no knee, no leg opening, no shrinkage figure, no pocket dimensions, no zip or button specification and no size conversion, and publishes no fit guidance beyond two words and no model information. Three things follow: the control case sitting next to it, the seven measurements of which two are given, and the organic claim that covers only the outside.
Thirteen point five ounces one product along, and not a word here, and that is the first thing, and it is the most valuable single comparison this run has been handed. This jean is described as heavyweight cotton denim and no weight is given. Denim has its own unit, ounces per square yard, which every mill and every supplier quotes as a matter of course, and in which the whole trade thinks. And the proof that the number was available is sitting in the same batch: the Noxon Pant, same brand, same season, same category, same country of manufacture, ten pounds cheaper, states 13.5 oz on the cloth and lists it as the first bullet. So this brand can state a denim weight, does state one, and did not state one here. That converts the omission from an absence into a choice, and it is worth being precise about what the choice costs. Since this brand calls 13.5 oz sturdy on the other jean, heavyweight here plausibly means something in the same band, and a reader can guess that. But guessing is the problem: the weight of a denim decides how it drapes, how it breaks in, how warm it is, how long it lasts and what it costs, and it is the number a denim customer is most likely to care about. A reader should not have to reconstruct it from a neighbouring product. And the same pattern repeats three more times on this page, which is what makes it a pattern rather than an oversight. The care label here is one clause, machine washable up to forty degrees; the other jean gets wash inside out, a temperature, tumble dry on low and iron on low, four instructions. The model: this page has none; the other gives her height and the size she wears. The rise: this page says high waist in one place and a neat waist in another and publishes no rise number; the other says high waist in the description and regular waist in its bullet list, which is a contradiction of a different kind. So two jeans from one brand, in one season, from one country, ten pounds apart, and each knows things the other does not. That is the cleanest demonstration this run has found that incomplete specification is arbitrary rather than systematic, and it matters because arbitrary omissions cannot be predicted or allowed for by a customer. It is worth adding one more control from the same pair, because it is the most practical of the four. Indigo denim is the garment above all others where washing inside out matters, since it is what slows the fading and the abrasion of a dark wash. The other jean says wash inside out. This one does not. Same cloth family, same dark indigo, same temperature, opposite instruction.
Two of seven, on cloth that does not give, and that is the second thing. Denim has a well-established set of measurements that buyers and customers both use: the waist, the hip, the front rise, the back rise, the thigh, the knee, the leg opening and the inside leg. This page publishes two of them, waist and inside leg. And the cloth is 100% cotton with no elastane, which is the crucial detail, because a non-stretch denim has no forgiveness at all. On a stretch jean a missing hip is survivable, since the cloth will make up an inch or two. On a rigid denim it is not: if the hip is too small the jean does not go on, and if it is too large it sits badly, and there is nothing in the cloth to negotiate. So the two measurements most likely to decide whether these jeans fit are the hip and the rise, and neither is published. The rise is worth dwelling on, because the page is not even consistent about the word. The bullet list says high waist. The description says a neat waist. Those are not the same claim: high is a position on the body, neat is a circumference, and a jean can be one without the other. And no rise figure is given anywhere to settle it, which is the number that would tell a customer where the waistband actually sits. Then the leg. The jean is sold as a loose fit, and loose on a jean is a claim about the leg: how much room there is through the thigh and how wide the hem is. Neither the thigh, nor the knee, nor the leg opening is published, so the fit word that defines the product is the one thing on the page that cannot be checked. And the inside leg deserves a note of its own, because it is the most extreme frozen dimension this run has measured. It reads 80, 80, 80, 81, 81, 81, 81 and 81, which is a grade of about two millimetres per size, so across eight waist sizes spanning seven inches the leg gets about one centimetre longer. Jeans are the category where length options are standard practice: short, regular and long, or a stated inseam the customer chooses from. This brand offers one leg length for every waist size from 25 to 32, and no short or long alternative. A customer who is tall and a customer who is short are being sold the same leg. It is worth noting that this is now the fourth time this run has found an inside leg held still across a size range, so it is a widespread practice rather than one brand's quirk; but it is more consequential here than on a corduroy trouser, because denim is the category where the customer expects to choose.
Organic on the outside, polyester in the pockets, and that is the third thing, and it is worth giving credit before the criticism. The page separates the shell from the pocket lining and states both: shell 100% cotton, organic; pocket lining 65% polyester, 35% cotton. That is better practice than most, because the majority of pages in this run give one composition and let the reader assume it covers everything. So the disclosure is good. But it reveals something the headline does not. The jean is sold as an organic cotton jean, and the pocket bags, which sit against the skin all day and which are the part of a jean that wears out first, are nearly two thirds polyester. A customer choosing organic cotton for her skin or for the environment is getting a synthetic blend in the pockets. There is a perfectly good technical reason for it: pocket bags need to be smooth and strong and cheap, and a polyester blend does that job better than cotton. The brand is entitled to make that choice. But nothing explains it, and the headline claim is narrower than the garment it is printed on. It is worth adding that the organic claim itself carries no standard. There are two widely used ones for organic cotton, one covering the fibre and one covering the whole supply chain including the dyeing and the labour, and neither is named, so organic here is an adjective with an unspecified meaning behind it. Then the care label, which is one clause and which is missing the two instructions that matter most on this cloth. Nothing about washing inside out, which as noted above is the one instruction that protects a dark indigo. Nothing about tumble drying, which is odd given that the same brand's other jean explicitly permits it on a low setting, so a reader cannot tell whether the silence means do not or means it does not matter. Nothing about ironing, on a garment people do iron. And nothing about shrinkage, which on denim is the single most useful number a page can carry, because denim shrinks and the amount depends on whether the cloth was sanforized. The colour name says rinsed, which implies the cloth has had one wash at the mill and is partly pre-shrunk, but the page never explains the term and never gives a figure, and it is telling a customer to wash at forty degrees, which is warm enough to move a denim that has not been fully stabilised. On a garment with no stretch and no published hip, shrinkage is not a footnote. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
Optional upgrades include quoting the denim weight in ounces per square yard and stating the finish, publishing the hip, the front rise and the back rise, the thigh, the knee and the leg opening, stating the shrinkage and whether the cloth is sanforized, offering short, regular and long leg lengths, giving the pocket dimensions and offering an all cotton pocket bag, naming the standard behind the organic claim, giving the bartack count and the stitch density, giving the zip brand and length and the button size, extending the care label to cover washing inside out, tumble drying, ironing and shrinkage, adding fit guidance and a model with her height and size, a mid weight denim and a denim with stretch, straight and tapered fit options, mid rise option, raw and washed denim finishes, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
