Oversized Hooded Rain Coat in Polyamide with Fleece Lining, Drawstrings at Waist, Hood and Hem, Elasticated Cuffs and a Zip Front with Snap Placket

The Heleny Coat from Bellerose in fir, an oversized cut with a large hood, slanted pockets, dropped shoulders, fleece lining, pull cords to adjust the fit, a tonal check, elasticated cuffs and a zip front with snap placket, listed at 320 GBP with all four sizes in stock. It is worth beginning with the chart, because all three of its columns are perfectly uniform, which this run rarely sees, and the grades are the interesting part. The pit to pit goes 60, 61, 62 and 63 centimetres, stepping one. The sleeve goes 49, 50, 51 and 52, stepping one. The total length goes 114, 118, 122 and 126, stepping four. So the length grade is four times the width grade. Across the range the coat gets three centimetres wider flat and twelve centimetres longer. And the stated fit word is oversized, which means the ease built into the garment is not a fixed amount: at the smallest size the coat is around fifteen inches bigger than the body it is labelled for, and at the largest it is under ten. So the same word describes two different amounts of room at the two ends of the range. The second thing worth setting out is the water repellency, because the description makes an absolute claim. It says the coat will keep you cozy and dry in all situations. There is no hydrostatic head figure, no spray test rating, no finish named, no membrane named and no mention of taped seams. The reference is the Heleny Coat. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable outerwear on OEM and ODM terms, from shell and lining sourcing and water repellent finishing to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

Occasions and Styling

Suits autumn, winter and wet weather. An oversized fleece lined coat with a hood and a drawstring hem carries over knitwear and tailoring alike, and the adjustability lets it be drawn in or left loose.

Production and Quality Control

The reference publishes three columns for all four sizes and all three grade perfectly, which is rare, states the fit word, lists eight bullets naming real features including three separate drawstrings and elasticated cuffs, declares the shell and the lining separately as is correct for a lined garment, carries all four sizes in stock, and names the style and colour codes. It gives no hydrostatic head, no spray test rating, no finish name, no seam construction, no breathability figure, no cloth weight, no fleece weight, no lining coverage, no hood dimensions, no adjustment range on any of the three drawstrings, no cuff circumference, no pocket dimensions, no shoulder drop, no check repeat, no recycled content, no PFAS statement, no reproofing guidance, no size conversion and no model, and its length grade is four times its width grade. Three things follow: the proportion change across the range, the water repellency claim with nothing behind it, and the one clause care label on a three hundred and twenty pound technical coat.

One, one, four, and that is the first thing, and this run wants to start by crediting the arithmetic, because it is genuinely rare. All three columns grade perfectly. The pit to pit steps one at every step, the sleeve steps one at every step, and the total length steps four at every step. This run has tested a great many charts and most of them fail this test somewhere: they wobble, or they freeze, or they grade and then stop. This one is clean on all three. Credit. Now the numbers. The width grade is one centimetre flat, which is two centimetres around, and the length grade is four centimetres. So the length grade is four times the width grade. Across the three size steps from XS to L the coat grows about six centimetres around and twelve centimetres in length. It is worth being careful here, because there is a reading that favours the brand. Larger people are taller, so a coat does need to gain more in length than a shirt does, and four centimetres of length per size step is roughly what a body gains in height. So the length grade may well be the correct one, and the width grade the small one. A standard width grade would be nearer two to two and a half centimetres flat per size, and this is one. So the coat grades its length at a normal rate and its width at about half of one. It is worth setting out what that does to the fit word, because the word is oversized and oversized is a claim about ease. At XS, 120 centimetres around is about forty seven inches, on a body of roughly thirty two. That is about fifteen inches of ease, which is a great deal of coat. At L, 126 centimetres around is about fifty inches, on a body of roughly thirty eight. That is about twelve inches. So the ease shrinks by roughly three inches from one end of the range to the other, and the word oversized covers both. It is worth saying that this may well be deliberate, because brands do commonly under grade oversized garments on purpose, so that the shape stays the same and the small sizes get the full effect. That is a defensible choice. But the page does not say it is a choice. It says oversized, once, and a customer has no way to know whether the room she gets at XS is the room she will get at L. It is worth setting this beside the other garment from this brand in this same batch, because the two run in opposite directions. That one is a knit with a neat fit and a four centimetre bust grade, so its ease grows as the sizes rise. This one is oversized with a one centimetre grade, so its ease shrinks. Same brand, same season, opposite directions, and one fit word each, and in both cases the word can only be true at one end of the range.

Dry in all situations, and that is the second thing, and this run wants to handle it carefully because the garment may well be good. The description says the coat is designed to withstand Bellerose's native Belgian weather with practicality at the forefront, and that it will keep you cozy and dry in all situations. The bullets say water repellent. And there is nothing behind any of it. There is no hydrostatic head figure, which is the standard measure of how much water a cloth will hold out before it lets through, and is given in millimetres. There is no spray test rating, which is the standard zero to five scale for how well a cloth sheds water on its surface. There is no finish named, and water repellency on a polyamide shell comes from a finish or a coating, because polyamide itself is not water repellent. There is no membrane named. And there is no mention of taped seams, which matters more than any of the others, because a shell that holds out water perfectly will still leak through its needle holes if the seams are not sealed. It is worth adding what is also absent on the other side of the same question. There is no breathability figure, on a coated synthetic shell over a fleece lining, which is the construction most likely to make a person wet from the inside. And there is no recycled content claimed on either the shell or the lining, both of which are synthetic and both of which can be made from recycled feedstock as a matter of course. And there is no statement about the chemistry of the finish. Water repellent finishes have been the largest single source of concern in apparel chemistry for several years, and a brand selling a water repellent coat at this price can reasonably be expected to say what it used. None of this means the coat performs badly. It means the page asks a customer to accept keep you dry in all situations on the word of the description, when every one of those things is measurable and cheap to print. It is worth closing on the care label, which is where the claim and the specification fail to meet. The label reads machine wash at 30 degrees, and that is the whole of it. No tumble instruction, no iron instruction, no reproofing guidance, and no statement of how many washes the finish will survive. A water repellent finish degrades with washing, and standard detergent and fabric softener degrade it faster, and it can be restored, either with a wash in product or with heat. The label says none of this. It is worth setting that beside a cardigan from another brand in this same batch, which is a simple knit at ninety pounds and carries three clauses: a temperature, a tumble prohibition and an iron setting. This is a technical coat at three hundred and twenty pounds and it carries one clause. The more complicated the garment, the less the label says.

Three drawstrings, and that is the third thing, and it is the most credit this run has been able to give any garment for this. The bullets name drawstrings at the waist, the hood and the hem, plus elasticated cuffs, plus a zip front with a snap placket over it. Eight bullets in total, and each one names a real feature rather than a mood. This run has spent a great many batches noting that the one thing which would rescue an unclear chart is adjustability, and that brands name adjustable elements without ever measuring them. This garment has more adjustable elements than anything else in this run: three separate cords, elasticated cuffs, and a two stage front. And it matters here more than it usually would, because it answers the grading problem directly. A coat whose width grade is half the usual rate, and whose fit word covers a three inch swing in ease, is a coat whose fit is genuinely uncertain from the chart. And this coat lets a customer draw in the waist, draw in the hem, and cinch the hood, so the uncertainty is largely resolvable on the body. That is a real mitigation and this run credits it without hedging. It is worth then noting what is not given, because the mitigation is real but unquantified. There is no cord length on any of the three drawstrings, and no adjustment range, so a customer cannot tell how far the waist can be drawn in. There is no hood dimension, on a garment whose bullet says large, which is an adjective with no number behind it. There is no cuff circumference, on elasticated cuffs, so a customer cannot tell how tight they will be. There is no pocket dimension, on a rain coat, where pocket size decides whether a phone and a hat fit. And there is no shoulder drop, on a garment whose dropped shoulders are the reason the pit to pit is the only width measurement published. It is worth closing on the length and the model, because they sit together. The coat runs 114 to 126 centimetres, which is the second longest garment this run has measured, and there is no model. A 114 centimetre coat on a body of five foot two reaches mid calf, and the same coat on a body of five foot nine reaches below the knee. Those are two different coats. It is worth adding one small positive in closing: all four sizes are in stock. This run has recorded stock on a great many garments and full availability is rare enough to note. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.

Optional upgrades include testing and publishing the hydrostatic head and the spray test rating, offering taped or welded seams, publishing a breathability figure, quoting the shell denier and weight and the fleece weight, stating what the lining covers, giving the cord length and adjustment range on all three drawstrings, the hood dimensions, the cuff circumference, the pocket dimensions and the shoulder drop depth, the zip length and snap count, the check repeat size, recycled polyamide and recycled polyester, a PFAS statement on the finish, adding reproofing guidance, a detergent warning, a tumble instruction and a wash count for the finish to sit beside the single existing clause, publishing a size conversion and a model height, regular and slightly oversized cuts, fixed hems, elasticated waists and belts, body only and quilted linings and unlined bodies, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.

Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
