The Forte Tee from Apiece Apart in cream, a sleeveless muscle tee in super soft organic cotton with a ribbed crew neckline and a fitted, square silhouette, listed at 115 GBP with three of four sizes in stock. It is worth beginning with the two sentences above the size chart, because they are the two things this run has been recording as missing more often than anything else. The first reads Fits true to size. Select your usual size. The second reads Model is 5'10 and wearing a size small. A fit statement, and a model with a height and a size. This run has published garment after garment with neither, and here are both, in two lines, before the chart. It is worth then looking at the chart, because it appears to have a fault in it and it does not, and working out why matters more than anything else on this page. The pit to pit runs 38, 40, 43 and 45 centimetres. The steps are 2, 3 and 2. Uneven. This run has met this shape before and has spent several batches going back and forth on whether it is a fault. It is not, and this garment settles it. Take a clean grade of about 2.33 centimetres a size and round each figure to a whole centimetre: 38, 40.33, 42.67, 45 becomes 38, 40, 43, 45. Exactly the published figures. So the wobble is an artefact of rounding a clean grade, and the grade underneath is even. It is worth saying how much that resolves, because it resolves more than this one garment. This run has twice now read a bust column stepping two, three, two, three and two and called it uneven, and 2.4 centimetres a size rounded to whole numbers produces precisely that. So that pattern, too, is a clean grade. And it means this run now has a way to tell the two cases apart, which it has not had until now. The reference is the Forte Tee. | S | 40 cm | 58 cm |
| M | 43 cm | 60 cm |

The pit to pit figures are flat half measures taken with the tee laid down, doubling to 76, 80, 86 and 90 cm around, or 29.92, 31.50, 33.86 and 35.43 in. Set against bodies of roughly 31, 34, 37 and 40 in across an XS to L, that is negative ease of about 1 in at the smallest size widening to about 4.6 in at the largest, on 100% organic cotton with no stretch declared and no measurement origin given for a sleeveless garment. The bust steps 2, 3 and 2, which is what a clean grade of about 2.33 cm looks like once each figure is rounded to a whole centimetre. The total length steps exactly 2 cm at every step. There is no sleeve column, which is correct for a sleeveless garment.

Occasions and Styling
Suits spring, summer and everyday layering. A sleeveless muscle tee works under an open shirt or a blazer, and on its own in warm weather.
Production and Quality Control
The reference states a fit statement and a model height and size, publishes two measurements for all four sizes with the length grading cleanly, states the fibre in two places and that it is organic, names the neck type and its trim, gives a care instruction, states the country of manufacture, lists the construction in a bullet list and names the style code. It gives no cloth weight, no certifier, no shoulder width, no armhole depth, no strap width, no neck depth, no rib width, no sleeve measurement origin, no stretched measurement, no shrinkage figure, no size conversion and no temperature in its care instruction. Three things follow: the bust column that looks uneven and is not, the fit guidance that is the best in this run and still leaves the numbers unreconciled, and the two dimensions a sleeveless square garment is defined by that are both unmeasured.
Two, three, two, and that is the first thing, and it is worth finishing a question this run has been carrying for several batches. The bust runs 38, 40, 43 and 45 centimetres, so the steps are two, then three, then two. Uneven, on the face of it, and this run has a habit by now of reading an uneven column as a fault. It is worth testing one idea against these numbers, because it fits them exactly. Suppose the grade is even at seven thirds of a centimetre, about 2.33, and suppose each figure is then written down as a whole number of centimetres. The sizes come out at 38, 40.33, 42.67 and 45, and rounded they are 38, 40, 43 and 45. Those are the published figures, to the centimetre. So the column is not uneven. It is an even grade rounded, and the rounding is honest, because a brand measuring with a tape writes down whole centimetres. It is worth saying what this settles, because it settles more than this garment. This run has twice read a bust column stepping two, three, two, three and two and recorded it as uneven, and a grade of 2.4 centimetres rounded to whole numbers produces exactly that sequence. So those were even too, and this run misread them. It is worth then setting out what follows, which is the useful part, because this run now has something it has not had: a way to tell the two cases apart. A column that swings between two and three is a clean grade rounded. A column that steps three, two, one, one is not rounding, because rounding cannot make a grade shrink at every step. A column that steps two, one, one, zero is not rounding either. And a column that steps zero, zero, two, zero, zero is a decision to grade in blocks. So the wobble this run has been recording across dozens of garments splits cleanly into two groups: charts that are fine and rounded, and charts where somebody made a decision. It is worth naming the three that were decisions, because the run can now say so with confidence. A dress whose bust stepped three, two, one, one. A cardigan whose length stepped two, one, one, zero. And two garments from one brand whose length and sleeve stepped zero, zero, two, zero, zero. None of those is rounding. They are choices, and the run has been right to call them out, and it can now stop calling the others out.
True to size, and five foot ten, and that is the second thing, and it is worth giving the credit first because it is genuine. The page says Fits true to size. Select your usual size. And it says Model is 5'10 and wearing a size small. This run has published garment after garment with no fit statement and no model at all, and it has recorded both as among the most common gaps in the industry. Here are both, in two lines, above the chart, and the model line gives a height and a size, which is the combination a customer needs, because a height without a size tells you nothing about the fit and a size without a height tells you nothing about the length. It is worth then doing what those two lines invite, which is checking them, and this is where the page becomes difficult. The pit to pit runs 38 to 45 centimetres, doubling to 76 to 90 centimetres around, or about 30 to 35 inches, against bodies of roughly 31 to 40. So at every size the garment measures less around than the body, by about an inch at an XS and by about four and a half inches at an L. The bullets call it fitted, and a muscle tee is cut close, so some of this is intended. But the cloth is one hundred per cent organic cotton with no elastane and no stretch mechanism named anywhere, and a woven cotton garment four and a half inches smaller around than the body does not go on. It is worth being careful here, because there is a real explanation available and the page does not give it. On a sleeveless garment with a deep armhole, the point called the pit is not the point a bust measurement is taken from, so the published figure may not correspond to the chest at all. That is very likely what is happening. But it is exactly the kind of thing a measurement origin is for, and there is none. So the customer is left with a true to size statement, a model who is five foot ten, and a set of numbers that cannot be made to fit a body, and no sentence on the page that reconciles them. It is worth setting this beside the other two garments this run has read with the same arithmetic, because it is now three in two batches. One declared five per cent elastane, and the numbers worked. One was one hundred per cent cotton with no stretch, and they did not. This one is one hundred per cent cotton with no stretch, and they do not. So the most helpful page of the three has the least reconcilable chart, which is worth sitting with: good fit guidance and an unreadable chart are not the same problem, and this page fixed the first and not the second.
Sleeveless, and square, and that is the third thing, and it is worth starting with what the page gets right, which is easy to miss. There is no sleeve column. The chart gives a pit to pit and a total length and stops. That is correct, because the garment has no sleeves, and this run has read charts that carried a sleeve column anyway. It is worth then turning to the two words that do the work in the description. Fitted, square sleeveless silhouette. Fitted is a fit word and this run has just tested it. Square is a shape word, and on a sleeveless garment a square silhouette is made by the shoulder: the shoulder line is what makes a muscle tee square rather than sloping. And there is no shoulder width anywhere on this page. It is worth adding the second missing dimension, which is the one a sleeveless garment lives or dies by. The armhole. How deep it is decides whether the tee sits close to the body or gaps, and on a muscle tee the armhole is cut deep by design and that depth is the design. It is not measured, and neither is the strap width. So the two dimensions that define a sleeveless square garment are the two that are not on the page, and the two that are on the page are the chest and the length. It is worth closing on the cloth and the label, because both are one word short of being useful. The cotton is organic and the page says so twice, which is better than most, but no certifier and no standard is named, so there is nothing to check it against. And it is described as super soft, which is a handle word with no weight and no finish behind it, and on a jersey the weight in grams per square metre is what tells a customer whether it drapes or clings. The care label reads machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. One clause, and cold is not a number, so there is no temperature. And there is no tumble instruction, no iron instruction and no shrinkage figure, on a one hundred per cent cotton jersey with a ribbed neck, which is the part that loses its shape first. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
Optional upgrades include quoting the cloth weight and naming the certifier for the organic cotton, measuring and publishing the shoulder width, the armhole depth and the strap width, stating the measurement origin for the pit to pit on a sleeveless garment, giving the neck depth and the rib width, reconciling the bust with the body or stating the ease and the intended fit at every size, giving a temperature in place of cold and adding tumble, iron and shrinkage figures to the label, publishing a size conversion, conventional, organic cotton and linen and heavier jerseys, plain crew, scoop, V and bound necks, relaxed square, racer back and wide strap shapes, cropped and hip lengths, enzyme washed and brushed finishes, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
