Reversible Quilted Parka with a Stowable Hood, a Chimney Collar, a Zip and Snap Placket, an Adjustable Drawstring Hem and Elasticated Cuffs

The Hedi coat from Bellerose, a reversible parka with a smooth dark blue-grey face carrying a stowable hood and snap pockets and a brown quilted ripstop reverse, cut with a relaxed silhouette, drop shoulders, voluminous sleeves and an elongated rounded back, listed at 330 GBP with three of five sizes in stock. It is worth beginning with the chart, because this garment does something this run has not been able to record before. The chest steps three centimetres at every step, and so does the total length, and the sleeve steps two. It is worth then working out what that produces, because it is the point. Doubled, the chest runs about 46 and a half to 53 and a half inches. Against bodies of 31 to 37 inches, the ease runs 15.46, 15.82, 16.18 and 16.54. It is worth then naming what is remarkable about that sequence, which is not that it is large but that it barely moves: a spread of just over an inch across four sizes. It is worth then explaining why, because this run has a formula for it that has now matched a dozen garments. A grade of g centimetres moves the ease by 0.79g minus 2 inches per size, so two centimetres takes 0.43 inches away, four adds 1.15, and three adds 0.37. It is worth then drawing out the consequence, which is the useful part for anyone making clothes. The grade that holds ease perfectly still is 2.53 centimetres, and this garment grades 3, which is the nearest practical step to it. It is worth then saying plainly what that earns it: this is the first garment in this run to hold its fit across the size range instead of letting it drift. It is worth then holding the fit word against it, because this is the sixth test of the word relaxed and it clears comfortably. It is worth then turning to the thing the page does not say, and this is the real finding. This coat is reversible. It has two faces: a smooth finish on one side and a quilted ripstop on the other. Every measurement on the page is a single set of numbers, and nowhere does it say which face they were taken on. It is worth then saying why that is not a pedantic question. A quilted face and a smooth face are not the same thickness, so the same coat measured from the two sides gives two different circumferences. It is worth then closing on the composition panel, because it makes the same omission in another form. Two lines: 100 per cent polyester, and lining at 100 per cent polyamide. The garment is quilted, which means there is a wadding between its faces, and no fibre is declared for it. The reference is the Hedi coat. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable outerwear on OEM and ODM terms, from shell, fill and trim development to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

The pit to pit figures are flat half measures taken with the coat laid down, doubling to 118, 124, 130 and 136 cm around, or 46.46 to 53.54 in. Against bodies of roughly 31 to 37 in, the ease at the chest runs 15.5, 15.8, 16.2 and 16.5 in, a spread of just over an inch across four sizes, and this run derives that a grade of g centimetres flat moves the ease by 0.79g minus 2 inches per size, so the 3 cm grade here adds 0.37. The grade that would hold the ease perfectly still is 2.53 cm, so 3 cm is the nearest practical step above it, and this is the only garment in this run whose fit does not drift across the range. The chart gives four columns while the garment is sold in five sizes, so an XXS carries no measurement anywhere on the page. No waist, no hip and no shoulder are published, and no measurement point is given for the sleeve. Our proposal below publishes both faces, adds the wadding, and measures every size sold.

Occasions and Styling

Suits winter and travel. A reversible parka gives two looks from one garment, and the stowable hood and the drawstring hem make it practical in changeable weather.

Production and Quality Control

The reference publishes three measurements across its size range, grades all three columns perfectly evenly, names its fibre for both faces, gives a three clause care label with a temperature, names its collar, hood, closure, hem, cuffs, pockets and drawstring, and names its country of manufacture. It gives no cloth weight for either face, no wadding fibre, no waist, no hip, no shoulder, no measurement point for the sleeve, no cuff circumference, no collar depth, no zip length, no snap count, no pocket count, no cord length, no tumble setting, no iron temperature, no shrinkage figure, no certification and no model, its chart covers four sizes while the garment is sold in five, and it gives one set of measurements for a garment with two faces without saying which face they belong to. Three things follow: the first garment in this run to hold its fit across the range, a reversible coat measured on one side only, and a quilted garment with no wadding declared.

Fifteen point five to sixteen point five, and that is the first thing, and it is worth saying what is remarkable about it before saying anything about the size of the numbers. It is not that the ease is generous. This run has read garments with more. It is that the ease barely moves: 15.46, 15.82, 16.18, 16.54, a spread of just over one inch across four sizes. Every other garment this run has measured has drifted, and drifted predictably, because this run has a formula for it that has now matched a dozen of them. A grade of g centimetres moves the ease by 0.79g minus 2 inches per size. Two centimetres takes 0.43 away, so most garments tighten as they grow. Four centimetres adds 1.15, which is what a padded jacket in this run did last batch. Three centimetres adds 0.37, which is what this one does. It is worth then drawing out the consequence, because it is the useful thing to come out of sixty batches of this. The grade that holds ease perfectly still is 2.53 centimetres. This garment grades 3, which is the nearest practical step above it. It is worth then saying what that earns it plainly: this is the first garment in this run whose fit does not change from the smallest size to the largest. It is worth then holding the fit word against it, because this is the sixth test of the word relaxed in this run and worth giving the tally. A sweatshirt at 12.6 to 13.9 cleared. A merino sweater at 9.5 to 10.7 did not. A sherpa jacket at 8.2 to 9.9 did not. A printed blouse at 5.1 to 6.8 did not. A padded jacket at 14.7 to 18.1 cleared. This coat at 15.5 to 16.5 clears, and it clears with the steadiest numbers any of them has produced. It is worth then adding one more credit, which is small and worth having: the description says voluminous sleeves, and the sleeve is graded, at two centimetres a step. This run has now met five garments claiming a balloon or voluminous sleeve, and three of them published one sleeve length for every size.

Reversible, and that is the second thing, and it is worth being precise about what is missing because the page is otherwise thorough. This coat has two faces. One is a smooth dark blue-grey finish. The other is a brown quilted ripstop. Every measurement on the page is a single set of three columns, and nowhere does it say which face was measured. It is worth then saying why that is not a pedantic objection. A quilted face and a smooth face are not the same thickness. The same coat measured from its two sides gives two different circumferences, and the difference is the thickness of the wadding. It is worth then setting that beside the omissions this run has already recorded, because it is the same shape in three dimensions: a skirt that did not say whether its waist was flat or round, and now a coat that does not say which of its two faces is being described. A measurement that has to be inferred is a measurement that has failed. It is worth then turning to the composition panel, which makes the same omission in another form, and this is where it matters most. Two lines: 100 per cent polyester, and lining at 100 per cent polyamide. The garment is quilted. Quilting means there is a wadding between two faces of cloth, and no fibre is declared for it. It is worth then putting that beside a garment from last batch, because the contrast is exact and one batch apart. An embroidered down jacket in this run split its composition into three lines and declared its padding at 90 per cent down and 10 per cent feather. This coat, which is also quilted and also filled, declares nothing. It is worth then running down the rest, which is mostly the usual. The sleeve is 46 to 52 centimetres, which is short for a winter coat, and the page states drop shoulders and gives no measurement point, which on a dropped shoulder is the single number that would tell a reader where the cuff falls. The elongated rounded back means the back is longer than the front, and one total length is published. The elasticated cuffs have no circumference in either state. And the chart has four columns while the garment is sold in five sizes, so an XXS can be bought with no measurement on the page at all.

Optional upgrades include publishing measurements for both faces of a reversible garment and saying which is which, declaring the wadding fibre and its weight, measuring every size sold including the XXS, holding the 3 cm grade so the ease stays flat, publishing the front length, the back length and the drop of the rounded back, publishing the waist, the hip and the shoulder, naming the measurement point for the sleeve, giving the cuff circumference relaxed and stretched, the collar depth, the zip length, the snap count, the pocket count and the cord length, stating a tumble setting and an iron temperature, quoting the weight in grams per square metre for both faces, adding shrinkage figures and a model reference, recycled polyester, nylon on both faces and cotton and nylon blends, down and feather fill with the fill power stated, synthetic sheet wadding and unquilted shells, fixed, detachable and no hood, exposed zips, button plackets and press stud fronts, straight hems and dropped backs without drawstrings, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.

Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
