The Low Curve jean from Agolde in a marbled, overdyed black wash, with a cropped tapered leg, a slouchy fit that sits low on the hips, a curved seam along the leg for a barrel effect and a button fly, listed at 320 GBP with seven of eight sizes in stock and a model reference of five foot ten wearing a size 27. It is worth beginning with the two length columns, because this is the first pair of trousers in this run to publish an inseam, and having both numbers lets something be worked out that no other garment in this run has allowed. The inseam is 69 centimetres on all eight sizes. The total length is 98 centimetres on all eight sizes. It is worth then doing the subtraction, which is 29 centimetres. It is worth then saying what that 29 centimetres is, which is the rise plus the waistband, if the total length is taken from the top of the waistband. It is worth then setting that against what the page says, because this is where it stops making sense. The jean is called Low Curve and the description says it sits low on the hips. It is worth then giving the standards, because denim has them: a low rise is roughly 18 to 22 centimetres, a mid rise 23 to 26 and a high rise 27 to 31. It is worth then stating where 29 falls, which is in the high band. It is worth then saying plainly what that means, which is that a jean sold as sitting low on the hips has a rise that says high, and the page gives no rise figure of its own to settle it. It is worth then turning to the model, because she is given and she lets the crop be located. At five foot ten, or 177.8 centimetres, with an inseam of 69, the inseam is 38.8 per cent of her height. It is worth then setting that beside the other length words this run has measured, because the comparison is now possible: ankle, on two pairs of trousers, came out at 38.5 and 41.0 per cent, and this jean, sold as cropped, comes out at 38.8. It is worth then stating the finding, which is that cropped measures inside the ankle band. It is worth then closing on the waist, because it is the last puzzle on the page. The sizes are 24 to 31, which in denim is the waist in inches, and the chart gives the waist in centimetres, and the two do not agree. The reference is the Low Curve jean. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable denim on OEM and ODM terms, from fabric and wash development to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

The waist figures are given with nothing on the page saying whether they are measured flat or all the way round. Taken all the way round they would be 13 to 17.3 in, which is smaller than any adult waist, so they can only be flat half measures, doubling to 66 to 88 cm, or about 26.0 to 34.6 in. Set against the size number, which in denim is the waist in inches, a 24 measures about 26 in and a 31 measures about 34.6, so every label reads two to three inches below what the garment measures. The inseam is 69 cm on all eight sizes and the total length is 98 cm on all eight, so both length columns are frozen, and the difference between them, about 29 cm, is the rise plus the waistband if the total length is taken from the top of the waistband. No rise, no hip, no thigh, no knee and no leg opening are published. Our proposal below publishes the rise, states the waist method, grades the inseam and measures the leg.

Occasions and Styling
Suits everyday and weekend wear. A barrel crop jean in rigid denim works with a fine knit or a shirt, and the cropped length shows a boot or a loafer.
Production and Quality Control
The reference publishes three measurements across eight sizes, the widest size run in this collection, and it is the first pair of trousers in this run to publish an inseam. It states its fibre, backs the word rigid with a fibre panel containing no elastane, gives a two clause care label with a temperature and a drying setting, names a model with her height and the size she wears, and names its leg shape, fly, wash and country of manufacture. It gives no rise, no hip, no thigh, no knee, no leg opening, no cloth weight and no ounce weight, no shrinkage figure, no shrinkage warning, no colour fastness, no wash name, no button count, no certification, and no note as to whether the waist is measured flat or round. Its inseam and its total length are both frozen across all eight sizes, and its description says the jean sits low on the hips while the rise derived from its own two numbers is about 29 cm. Three things follow: a cropped jean with an inseam that does not grade, a rise that contradicts the words, and the first denim in this run with no ounce weight.
Twenty nine, and that is the first thing, and it is worth saying how this run arrived at it, because it has not been able to do this before. This is the first pair of trousers in this run to publish an inseam, and publishing both an inseam and a total length means the two can be set against each other. The inseam is 69 cm. The total length is 98. It is worth then doing the subtraction, which is 29 cm, and saying what that is: if the total length is the outseam taken from the top of the waistband, then 29 cm is the rise plus the waistband depth. It is worth then setting that against the words, because this is where it stops making sense. The jean is called Low Curve. The description says it sits low on the hips. It is worth then giving the standards that denim actually uses, because they exist and they are not a matter of taste: a low rise is roughly 18 to 22 cm, a mid rise 23 to 26, a high rise 27 to 31. It is worth then stating where 29 falls, which is in the high band. It is worth then saying plainly what that means, which is that a jean sold as sitting low on the hips carries a rise that says high. It is worth then noting the thing that makes this worse rather than better, which is that the page publishes no rise of its own. So the only figure available is one the reader has to derive, and the derived figure contradicts the description. It is worth then turning to the waist, because it has the same problem in a different form. The sizes run 24 to 31, and in denim that number is the waist in inches. It is worth then checking the chart against the label. Nothing says whether the waist is flat or all the way round, and read all the way round a 33 cm waist is 13 inches, which is absurd, so it must be flat, doubling to 66 cm or about 26 inches. It is worth then stating the gap, which is that a jean labelled 24 measures 26 inches at the waist, and a jean labelled 31 measures 34.6, so every label reads two to three inches below what the garment actually is. It is worth then adding the thing that removes any excuse for it, which is that the denim is rigid: 100 per cent cotton, no elastane, so there is no stretch to explain the difference and no give to absorb it.
Sixty nine, eight times, and that is the second thing, and it is worth saying what kind of garment this is before saying what the number does, because the two are connected. The jean is described as cropped, and its inseam is 69 cm on every one of its eight sizes. It is worth then stating what that means, which is that every size has the same leg length, so the hem falls at a different height on every body from a 24 to a 31. It is worth then saying why that matters more here than anywhere else in this run, which is that this is now the fourth cropped garment this run has measured, and every one of them has failed to grade its length fast enough to keep the crop where it was designed to be. It is worth then giving the tally, because it is worth having in one place: a cropped tee grading 4, 3 and 4 cm against a body growing 5, a second cropped tee grading 2 cm against a body growing 5, and now a cropped jean grading zero across eight sizes. It is worth then turning to the model, because she is given and she lets the crop be located for the first time. At five foot ten, or 177.8 cm, an inseam of 69 cm is 38.8 per cent of her height. It is worth then setting that beside the other length words this run has been able to measure, and the comparison is the finding: ankle, on two pairs of trousers, came out at 38.5 and 41.0 per cent. Cropped, on this jean, comes out at 38.8. It is worth then stating what that means, which is that cropped measures inside the ankle band, and the two words describe the same place on the body. It is worth then closing on the cloth, because this is the first denim in this run and denim has a specification that no other cloth does. The description calls it weightless. It is worth then saying what denim is bought and sold by, which is weight in ounces per square yard, and the useful range runs from about 4 oz to 15 oz. It is worth then stating what is missing, which is the weight entirely: no ounces, no grams per square metre, nothing. It is worth then setting that beside the words this run has collected over the last three batches, because it is now a habit: a jumper called thick with no weight, a tee called lightweight with no weight, a coat with no weight, and now a denim called weightless with no weight, on the one cloth in the world that is specified by its weight above all else. It is worth then adding the last thing, which is the one that will be felt after the sale. The denim is rigid and 100 per cent cotton, the care label says tumble dry, and no shrinkage figure is published anywhere. It is worth then stating what follows: the inseam will not be 69 cm after the first wash, and nothing on the page says so.
Optional upgrades include publishing the front and back rise so the words can be checked, grading the inseam across the size set so the crop stays where it is designed to be, stating the waist as flat or round and reconciling the chart with the size label, publishing the hip, the thigh, the knee and the leg opening so the barrel and the taper can both be seen, quoting the weight in ounces per square yard and grams per square metre, publishing the shrinkage figure after wash and warning where a rigid denim will move, giving the wash name and the colour fastness, the button count and size, adding a colour bullet, comfort, 99/1, organic and recycled cotton denims, straight, wide, tapered and bootcut legs, mid and high rises, full length and ankle inseams, zip and concealed flies, raw, rinse, stone and laser washes, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
