The Brynn from Citizens of Humanity in Pashmina, a soft off-white, crafted from a regenerative cotton with a beautiful drape, with a comfortable drawstring waist, a wide leg and a mid rise, in a rigid non-stretch denim with a soft hand, listed at 380 GBP with six of eight sizes in stock. It is worth beginning with the waist, because it is the cleanest comparison in this run's whole length and the result is hard to explain. The waist runs 34, 35, 36 and on up to 41 centimetres, stepping exactly one centimetre at every step, which is perfect. And it is worth setting that beside another Citizens garment this run measured two batches ago, because the two are the same in every respect that ought to matter. Same brand, same size scale of 24 to 31, same eight sizes, and the same starting measurement: 34 centimetres flat at a size 24, which on a nominal twenty four inch waist is about 2.77 inches of ease on both. And then the two diverge. That garment graded two centimetres per size. This one grades one. A factor of two, from one brand, on one size scale, starting from one identical number. By a size 31 the two are seven centimetres of flat measure apart, which is fourteen centimetres around, which is about five and a half inches of ease. It is worth then turning to the lengths, because this garment does something no other in this run has done. Both the inseam and the total length are frozen: 76 centimetres and 106 centimetres on all eight sizes. And because both are published, the rise can be worked out, which is where this garment becomes the most useful page this run has read. The reference is the Brynn Drawstring Trouser. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable trousers on OEM and ODM terms, from denim and wash development to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

The waist figures are flat half measures taken with the trouser laid down, doubling to 68 to 82 cm around, or 26.77 to 32.28 in. Because the size labels are nominal waist inches, the page states its own scale of one inch per size, and against it the ease at the waist runs from about 2.8 in at a size 24 down to about 1.3 in at a size 31. Another Citizens garment this run measured, on the same size scale and starting from the same 34 cm at a size 24, graded 2 cm per size instead of 1, and so reaches about 6.8 in of ease at a size 31: the two are about 5.5 in apart at the top of the range. The inseam is 76 cm and the total length 106 cm on all eight sizes, so neither length grades at all, and the difference between them puts the rise at about 30 cm, which the page never states. No hip, thigh, knee or leg opening is published. Our proposal below grades the waist, the inseam and the total length evenly and publishes the rise directly.

Occasions and Styling
Suits everyday, casual and weekend wear. A wide leg rigid denim trouser with a drawstring waist works with a tonal knit or a simple tee and reads as a relaxed tailored piece.
Production and Quality Control
The reference publishes three measurements for all eight sizes, grades its waist perfectly at every step, states that the denim is rigid and non-stretch, names its leg shape and its rise, names its closure in two parts, gives a pocket count, describes its handle and its drape, states its care, states the country of manufacture and names the style number, carries six photographs, and publishes both an inseam and a total length so that the rise can be worked out. It gives no cloth weight, no hip, no thigh, no knee, no leg opening, no rise measurement, no drawstring length or channel, no button count or size, no pocket locations or dimensions, no wash description, no dye standard or certifier, no shrinkage figure, no size conversion, no model and no certification, and both of its length measurements are frozen across all eight sizes. Three things follow: a grade half the size of the same brand's on the same scale, a rise that can be derived and that contradicts the word, and a claim about the fibre that lives only in the description.
One, and two, and that is the first thing, and it is worth setting up the comparison carefully because it is the cleanest this run has had. Two batches ago this run measured another Citizens garment: a high rise straight leg jean. It ran from size 24 to size 31, eight sizes, the same as this one. Its waist measured 34 centimetres flat at a size 24. So does this one. Thirty four flat is sixty eight around, which is about twenty six point eight inches, against a nominal twenty four inch waist, so both garments start with about two point eight inches of ease at the smallest size. Same brand, same size scale, same number of sizes, same starting measurement. And then one grades two centimetres per size and the other grades one. It is worth being clear that a factor of two is not a rounding difference and not a design nuance. It means that by a size 31 one of them measures forty eight centimetres flat and the other forty one. That is seven centimetres of flat measure, fourteen centimetres around, about five and a half inches of waist. It is worth then running the arithmetic on each, because the relationship this run has been testing holds on both and in opposite directions. The size labels step by one inch, and one inch of body waist needs about one point two seven centimetres of flat measure. At two centimetres a size the high rise jean grades too fast, and its ease grows from about two point eight inches to about six point eight. At one centimetre a size this one grades too slow, and its ease falls from about two point eight inches to about one point three. Both predictions match the measured figures. So the same brand, on the same scale, produces one garment whose waist gets looser as it gets bigger and one whose waist gets tighter, and the two end up five and a half inches apart. It is worth then asking whether anything about the two garments justifies that, and the answer is that what difference there is points the other way. This one has a drawstring waist, which is a closure that absorbs variation: if the waist is a little big you gather it, and the garment still works. The other has a button closure on a rigid waistband, which absorbs nothing and has to be right. And the one that can tolerate a loose waist is the one with one point three inches of ease at the top of the range, while the one that cannot is the one with six point eight. The mechanism designed to forgive fit variation is fitted to the garment that needs it least. It is worth adding one honest qualification, because the run should not overstate. On a drawstring waist the waist measurement is not really a fit measurement at all: it is the amount of cloth you gather. So the run's ease arithmetic, which assumes the waistband has to match the body, applies cleanly to the buttoned garment and only loosely to this one. Which means the two cases are not quite as symmetrical as the numbers make them look, and the run would rather say so than let the comparison look tidier than it is.
Seventy six, eight times, and that is the second thing, and it is worth saying what kind of record it is. The inseam is seventy six centimetres on a size 24 and seventy six on a size 31. The total length is one hundred and six on both. This run has found frozen lengths before, on skirts and dresses and tees, and it has found them frozen across three sizes, four sizes and five. It has not found a garment where every length measurement is frozen across every size offered. Eight sizes, two columns, no movement at all. A size 24 and a size 31 get the same leg and the same trouser. It is worth then doing the one useful thing this chart makes possible, which is no small thing. Because both the inseam and the total length are published, the difference between them is the rise. One hundred and six less seventy six is thirty centimetres, on every size. It is worth saying why that number matters so much, because it is the sharpest result this run has produced. Two batches ago the run measured the other Citizens garment, the one labelled high rise. It also published both lengths, so its rise can be worked out too, and it comes to between twenty five and twenty seven centimetres depending on the size. So the same brand's high rise measures twenty five to twenty seven centimetres, and its mid rise measures thirty. The mid rise is higher than the high rise, by three to five centimetres. It is worth being explicit about how the run knows this, because it is worth more than the fact itself. Neither page states a rise. Both state two lengths. The rise is visible only because both pages happened to publish the pair of numbers that reveal it, and a customer would have to subtract one from the other on each page and then compare the results across two product pages to see it. It is worth then setting that beside the rest of this run's work on fit vocabulary. The run has spent its whole length showing that fit words are unmeasured and therefore unreliable. This is worse than unmeasured: on one brand's two garments the words are not merely unsupported, they are the wrong way round. It is worth adding the other two gaps that this garment shares with its stablemate. The bullets say wide leg, and the leg opening is the measurement that defines a wide leg, and it is not there. And there is no hip, no thigh and no knee. It is worth noting that this batch contains three bottoms and not one of the three measures a hip, which the run has already said, and it is worth adding here because a wide leg trouser is the garment where the hip and the thigh decide the fit most completely.
Regenerative, and that is the third thing, and it is worth saying where it appears, because this is a new version of a split the run has met twice. The description says crafted from a regenerative cotton with a beautiful drape. The composition panel, one tab further down the same page, says made from one hundred per cent cotton. So the claim is in the advertisement and not in the specification. It is worth setting that beside the same brand's other garment, because within one brand the run now has both halves. On the high rise jean two batches ago the composition panel itself read one hundred per cent regenerative cotton. Here it reads one hundred per cent cotton. Same brand, same claim, and on one garment it is part of the specification while on the other it exists only in the prose. It is worth then naming the pattern, because it is now the third time this run has seen the same page disagree with itself in one direction or the other. A dress had lace in its fibre panel and nowhere in its description. A tee had lace in its description and not in its fibre panel. And now a brand has a fibre claim in its description and not in its fibre panel. In every case the two halves of the page do not speak to each other, and in every case the customer reading one half learns something different from the customer reading the other. It is worth adding that no certifier and no standard is named, so regenerative is a word here rather than a standard, which is the same position this run found on the brand's other garment. It is worth then closing on the smaller items, two of which are worth a line. The bullets say five pockets, which is a count, and gives no locations, while another garment in this batch gives locations and reinforcement and no count, and a third does not mention pockets at all, so three garments in one batch describe the same feature three incomplete ways. And the colour is called Pashmina, which the description explains as a soft off-white, and which is also the name of a fibre, on a garment made of cotton. It is worth noting that this run has credited pages that explain their colour names, and this one does explain it, so the credit stands, and the collision with a fibre name is a small confusion rather than a fault. It is worth adding the care label last, because three bottoms in one batch carry three different standards: one says machine washable up to forty degrees with a number, one says dry clean only, and this one says machine wash cold, which is a word and not a temperature. And none of the three gives a shrinkage figure, on garments where a couple of per cent moves the hem. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
