Branded Sports Drop Shoulder Sweatshirt: Authorisation First

A sports brand name on a garment is a rights question before it is a manufacturing one. Brand names are registered, and producing merchandise carrying one without authorisation from the owner is infringement, with the practical risk of a seized shipment rather than just a remake. We ask for that authorisation before we sample. Without it, the honest alternative is the same garment plain or with your own artwork.

The garment itself is a drop shoulder sweatshirt in plush, and the interesting part is the shoulder. Dropping the shoulder moves the seam off the shoulder onto the upper arm, which changes how the sleeve hangs and makes the whole garment read as relaxed. On plush, where the fabric is thick, that dropped seam has bulk to manage, and it is the detail that decides whether it looks designed or just big.

A note on this one: This title names a sports brand. We will not produce branded merchandise without documented authorisation from the brand owner. The garment notes below assume that paperwork is in place.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production

Authorisation is the first and it is not something we can work around. Brand names are registered, and producing garments carrying one without paperwork risks seizure and a claim against both parties. If it cannot be shown, we would rather build the same garment plain or with your own artwork, which we can do and which leaves you in a stronger position.

The dropped shoulder is the second. Moving the seam off the shoulder onto the arm changes how the sleeve hangs, and on plush the seam has real bulk, so it will sit heavily rather than cleanly if it is simply sewn. We set the drop in centimetres, engineer the seam for the bulk rather than pressing it, and check the sleeve on the body rather than flat, at both ends of the size range.

Pile, shrinkage and surface are the third. Pile shades differently by direction, so we control it at cutting, and it flattens and mats where handled, so we test rubbing and pack so it is protected. Shrinkage changes a relaxed shape and a dropped shoulder measurably, so we test on the actual cloth and compensate before cutting. Any branding is applied to the licence terms and approved against the brand's reference rather than a screen.
