Branded Fleece Volley Short: Authorisation, Then A Short Built For Movement

A sports brand name on a short is a rights question first. Brand names are registered and producing garments carrying one without authorisation from the owner is infringement, with the practical risk that a shipment gets seized. So we ask for that authorisation before we sample, and where it cannot be shown, the honest alternative is the same short plain or with your own artwork.

The garment is a volley short, which means a short with a shorter inseam built for movement rather than for lounging. That changes the specification: the leg opening has to allow a full stride without gripping, the rise has to work when bending, and the seams have to be specified for movement. A short that is comfortable standing and grips when running is not fit for purpose.

A note on this one: This title names a sports brand. We will not produce branded merchandise without documented authorisation from the brand owner. The garment notes below assume that paperwork is in place.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production

Authorisation is the first and it cannot be worked around. Brand names are registered, and producing merchandise carrying one without paperwork risks seizure and a claim. Where it cannot be shown, we would rather build the same short plain or with your own artwork, which we can do and which is a better commercial position.

Fit in motion is the second. A volley short is worn moving, so the leg opening has to allow a full stride, the rise has to work bending, and neither can be judged standing flat. We check both in motion, set them as measurements, and grade them by size rather than scaling one number across the range. The crotch seam is the highest load seam on the garment, so it is specified and tested rather than assumed.

Recovery, washing and shrinkage are the third. A short worn for sport bags if the fabric does not recover, so we test recovery rather than stretch. It is also washed often, so we test to more cycles than for a lounge short, check the hand survives, and test shrinkage before cutting and compensate the pattern, because a few percent on a short changes the inseam and the rise measurably. Any branding is applied to the licence terms and approved against the brand's reference.
