The Sabina Mini Godet Dress from Damson Madder in cardamon mix check, a relaxed swing shape with a soft scoop neck, puff sleeves with tie details, godet panels, a frilled hem and side pockets, listed at 85 GBP with four of six sizes in stock. It is worth beginning with the length, because this run has recently learned how to check a length word and this page does not let it. The dress is called a mini and measures 66 centimetres at every one of its six sizes. Sixty six centimetres from the shoulder puts the hem just above the knee on an average body, so the word is probably right. Probably is the operative word, because there is no model on this page, and one batch ago this run published a skirt from this same brand that did state a model height and size, and on that page the same kind of check landed exactly. So the same brand, in consecutive batches, gives the run enough to verify a length on one garment and not enough on another. It is worth then turning to the bust, because it produces the same arithmetic as another garment from this brand in this same batch, and it fails. The pit to pit runs 40 to 50 centimetres, doubling to 80 to 100 centimetres around, or about 31 to 39 inches, against bodies of roughly 31 to 41. So at the top of the range the dress measures no more around than the body it is made for. On the tee in this same batch that is fine, because that page declares 5% elastane and the cloth stretches. This page declares 100% cotton and nothing else, so there is no stretch to account for it. Two garments, one brand, one batch, the same negative ease, and the fibre panel is what separates the one that works from the one that does not. The reference is the Sabina Mini Godet Dress. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable dresses on OEM and ODM terms, from cloth sourcing and check development to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

Occasions and Styling
Suits spring, summer and autumn. A swing shape mini with godets and a frilled hem works with flats or boots, and side pockets make it practical for everyday.
Production and Quality Control
The reference publishes three columns for all six sizes with two grading cleanly, states the length word, names the godets, the puff sleeves, the frill and the side pockets, gives a care instruction with a temperature and a tumble prohibition, states the country of manufacture, lists the construction in a bullet list and names the style code. It gives no cloth weight, no weave, no hem circumference, no godet count, depth or width, no sleeve opening, no tie length, no check size or repeat, no frill depth, no neck depth, no pocket dimensions, no shoulder width, no shrinkage figure, no fit word in the bullets, no size conversion and no model, it freezes its length column, and one of its six photographs shows a different product. Three things follow: the negative ease that no stretch accounts for, the length that cannot be checked without a model, and the godets that give the dress its name and none of its numbers.
Thirty nine, and that is the first thing, and it is the same arithmetic this run ran on another garment from this brand in this same batch, with the opposite result. The pit to pit runs 40 to 50 centimetres, which doubles to 80 to 100 centimetres around, or about 31 to 39 inches. A UK 6 body is roughly 31 inches at the bust and a UK 16 roughly 41. So at the smallest size this dress measures about the same as the body, and at the largest it measures about an inch and a half less than the body. Negative ease. It is worth saying at once that this run is using standard UK equivalents here, because no size conversion is published, and that a brand may measure from a different place. But the direction is clear enough and it is worth following. On the tee in this same batch, the same negative ease is seven to nine inches and it is fine, because that page declares 5% elastane and a jersey with elastane in it will stretch by a third and recover. This page declares 100% cotton. There is no elastane, no elastic thread, and no stretch mechanism named anywhere on it. So there is nothing on this page that accounts for a garment measuring less around than the body that wears it. It is worth being precise about what that means, because it is not that the dress will not close. It is that one of the two numbers has to be wrong, or the garment is cut to be worn in a way the chart does not describe, and the page does not say which. It is worth setting the two garments side by side once more, because this is the useful part and it is the first time this run has been able to do it. Two garments, one brand, one batch, both with negative ease at the top of the range. One declares its elastane in four words and becomes readable. One declares 100% cotton and does not. The fibre panel is not a separate box on the page from the size chart. It is the key to the chart, and without it a customer is reading numbers that cannot be reconciled with a body. It is worth adding the second thing the panel would have settled here, which is the fit word. There is none in the bullets. The description says a relaxed swing shape and the bullets say swing shape, and swing describes the way the skirt falls rather than how the bodice fits. So whether this dress is meant to be close at the bust, as the numbers suggest, or relaxed, as the description says, is not stated anywhere.
Sixty six, six times, and that is the second thing, and it is worth setting it beside what this run could do one batch ago. The length is 66 centimetres at every size, from a UK 6 to a UK 16. Sixty six centimetres from the shoulder puts a hem just above the knee on an average body, so mini is probably the right word. Probably is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and it is worth saying why. One batch ago this run published a midi skirt from this same brand which stated that the model was five foot nine and wore a UK 8, and because both the height and the size were given, the run could work out where 76 centimetres fell on that body and confirm that midi was the right word. That check worked, and it worked because of one sentence. This page has no model. So the same brand, in consecutive batches, lets a length word be verified on one garment and not on another. It is worth noting that the frozen length makes the missing model worse rather than better. Because the length does not move, a UK 16 gets the same 66 centimetres as a UK 6, and bodies do not stay the same height across a size range, so the dress sits higher on whoever is taller. A model would have told a customer where it sits on one body at least. It is worth then setting the other two columns beside the length, because this chart is a good one in two places out of three. The bust goes 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 and 50, stepping exactly two at every step. The sleeve goes 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32, stepping exactly one at every step. Both clean, both across all six sizes, no blocks and no wobble. So this brand, which this run has now measured on several garments, grades the bust cleanly at two or three centimetres every single time, and treats length and sleeve as optional. Here it graded the sleeve and not the length. On another garment in this batch it did the opposite. It is worth closing on the puff sleeves, because they are the neatest instance of something this run keeps meeting. The bullets say puff sleeves with ties. Puff is a word about volume. The chart measures the sleeve at 27 to 32 centimetres, which is a length. So the page measures the sleeve in the one dimension the word is not about. And the ties let a customer change the sleeve opening, which is the dimension the word is about, and there is no sleeve opening and no tie length published. This run found the same shape of problem on a shirt one batch ago: that garment had an elasticated waist, which was the one dimension it let a customer change, and the chart measured the bust and not the waist. Different garments, same structure: the adjustable dimension is the unmeasured one.
Godet, and that is the third thing, and it is the eighth time this run has met this shape of omission, which is enough to call it a rule. The dress is called the Sabina Mini Godet Dress. Godet panels are inserted wedges of cloth that add width and movement to a hem, and the description says they add movement and volume. There is no godet count, no godet depth and no godet width. And there is no hem circumference, which is the single measurement that would tell a customer what the godets actually did. So a dress named after a construction detail gives none of that detail's numbers. It is worth listing the others, because the list is now long enough to be a pattern rather than a coincidence. A top called Strawberry with no count of strawberries. A dress named for its print with no repeat size. A knit called Stripe A with no stripe measurement. A skirt called Basil Stripe with no stripe width. A sweatshirt called Deli Dog with no graphic dimensions. And now this, which is named after its godets and after its check, and gives neither. It is worth adding what the check costs the customer here, because it is not only an aesthetic question. A check has to be matched at the seams to look right, and matching a check costs cloth and is a mark of a well made garment. The page does not say whether the check is matched, and it does not give the check size or repeat, so there is no way to tell either way. It is worth closing on the photographs, because this run has not met this before. The reference's image set for this dress contains a photograph of a different product: a check tie bag, in the same colourway. It is the third image a customer sees. There is no note that it is a styling shot or that the bag is sold separately, and the dress has no bag. So one of the six photographs on a product page for a dress is a picture of something else, and a customer scrolling through will come to it with no explanation. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
Optional upgrades include grading the length across the six sizes, publishing a model height and size so the length word can be checked, measuring and publishing the hem circumference, the godet count, depth and width, the sleeve opening and tie length, the check size and repeat and whether the check is matched at the seams, the cloth weight and weave, the neck depth and width, the frill depth and the pocket dimensions, stating the fit at the bust and adding a fit word to the bullets, adding washing inside out and shrinkage figures to the label, publishing a size conversion, organic cotton, cotton and linen and cotton poplin, plain dye and stripe options, gathered, pleated and plain A line skirts, plain puff, straight and cap sleeves and sleeveless bodices, plain, scalloped and deep hems, knee and midi lengths, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
