The Iggy dress from Damson Madder in a blue check, with lace inserts and adjustable cami straps, listed at 90 GBP with all six sizes in stock and a single photograph on the page. It is worth beginning with the bust column, because it is clean and because this brand is becoming a pattern. Across the six sizes the pit to pit goes 34, 37, 40, 43, 46 and 49 centimetres, stepping three at every step. Perfectly uniform. This run has now looked at three garments from this brand and all three have graded their bust column perfectly, which no other brand in this run has managed. And then the thing that makes it interesting, which is that cleanliness is not the same as correctness. Two batches ago this run published another dress from this same brand, in the same size range, whose bust column was also perfectly uniform, at two centimetres a step. So one dress grades its bodice at two centimetres flat and this one grades it at three. Same brand, same measurement, same size scale, and a fifty per cent difference between them. Both are internally flawless and they cannot both be the same fit. Set them side by side and the consequence is exact: at size 10 they measure identically, and they diverge from there, so at size 6 one dress is two centimetres wider and at size 16 the other is three centimetres wider. A UK 10 customer gets the same number from either dress. A UK 6 or a UK 16 customer gets two different numbers depending on which dress she picks up. The second thing worth setting out is the length, and it is the largest gap between a word and a measurement this run has found. The title says Midi Dress. The chart says 73 to 78 centimetres. This run has measured another dress from this same brand at 106 centimetres and it is also called a midi. So one word covers 73 and 106 centimetres, a span of thirty three, and 73 centimetres is shorter than a mini on most bodies. The reference is the Iggy Lace Insert Midi Dress. Dongguan Bafinasa Garments Co., Ltd. develops comparable dresses on OEM and ODM terms, from cloth sourcing and lace development to retail or FBA ready packing. We publish this as a development reference and build your own version of it, and we do not supply the branded original or reproduce anyone else's label.

Suits summer, autumn, holiday and everyday dressing. A blue checked cotton dress with lace works on its own in warm weather and under a cardigan as it cools.
Production and Quality Control
The reference publishes two columns for all six sizes, both grading cleanly, has all six sizes in stock, gives a composition panel with a separate line for the lace, gives a care instruction with a temperature, a tumble prohibition and an iron setting, and names the style code. It gives no cloth weight, no certifier for its organic claim, no lace width, placement or pattern, no strap adjustment range, no statement of the strap setting used for the length measurement, no check size or repeat, no shrinkage, no colourfastness, no size conversion, no model, no fit word and no bullet list, and it carries a single photograph. Three things follow: the two clean charts that disagree with each other, the length that contradicts the word in the title, and the composition that declares its trim and not its certifier.
Three and two, and that is the first thing, and it is the most useful thing this run has found in some time, because it settles a question this run has been circling. The bust goes 34, 37, 40, 43, 46 and 49 centimetres. Every step is three. Perfectly uniform, and worth crediting: this is the third garment from this brand this run has measured and all three have graded their bodice column perfectly, which no other brand in this run has managed on even two. Now the useful part. This run published a dress from this same brand two batches ago, in this same size range, and its bust column was 36, 38, 40, 42, 44 and 46. Every step two. Also perfectly uniform. So this brand grades the same measurement on the same size scale at two centimetres on one dress and three on another. Both are internally flawless. And that is the finding, because it demonstrates something this run has only been able to assert until now: a clean grade is not a correct grade. Uniformity means the numbers are consistent with each other. It says nothing about whether they are consistent with a body, or with the brand's other garments. This run said last batch that clean grading is a premise rather than a conclusion, and this is the proof of it, from a single brand, on a single measurement, with both charts in front of us. And the consequence can be worked out exactly, which makes it worth setting out. Put the two columns side by side. At size 10 both are 40 centimetres. They cross there. Below it the other dress is wider by two centimetres at size 6 and one at size 8. Above it this one is wider by one at size 12, two at size 14 and three at size 16. So a customer who is a UK 10 gets the same bodice measurement from either dress and can trust it. A customer who is a UK 6 gets one number from one dress and a different one from the other, and a UK 16 customer gets the reverse. The brand's size 10 means something. Its size 6 and its size 16 mean two things depending on which rail the dress is on. This run has spent a great deal of its length finding charts that fail a uniformity test, and has said repeatedly that the problem is that the numbers wobble. Here are two charts that do not wobble at all, and the problem is still there. It is worth adding the second column, because it grades too. The length goes 73 to 78 centimetres, stepping one at every step, clean. So this garment has two clean columns and a bodice grade fifty per cent larger than the brand's other dress. Everything about it is well made and nothing about it is transferable.
Seventy three, and midi, and that is the second thing, and it is the widest gap between a word and a number this run has measured. The title calls this a Midi Dress. The chart says 73 centimetres at size 6 rising to 78 at size 16. This run has to say plainly where that sits. A knee length dress is around 95 to 100 centimetres. A midi is around 110 to 120. A mini is around 80 to 85. Seventy three centimetres is below all of them. On most bodies it is a short dress or a long tunic. And the description supports that reading while the title contradicts it: the page says it is perfect for your summer wardrobe, that it works on its own, and that you could throw it on fresh out the pool. That is a short summer dress. It is not a midi. It is worth setting beside the other dress, because the comparison is what makes it a finding rather than a quibble. The other dress from this brand measures 106 centimetres and is also called a midi. So within one brand, in one season, on one size scale, the word midi covers 73 centimetres and 106. That is a span of thirty three centimetres under a single word. This run has been collecting these: cropped covered fourteen centimetres across four garments, and short and elbow sleeves overlap and invert. Midi is now the widest of them, and it is the widest inside a single brand, which is the harder case, because a brand has one pattern room and one vocabulary and ought to be able to keep them aligned. It is worth adding what makes the number even less fixed than it looks, because this is a nice small point. The straps are adjustable. So the total length of this dress depends on where the straps are set, and the page publishes the length to the centimetre as though it were a fixed property of the garment. It is not. A customer who shortens the straps has a shorter dress, and nobody told her what setting the 73 centimetres refers to. This run noted on an earlier garment that a tie front partly compensates for missing fit guidance because it makes the fit adjustable; the same logic applies here and it cuts the other way, because an adjustable strap makes a published length ambiguous rather than helpful. And there is no model, which is what would have resolved all of it at a glance.
One hundred per cent organic cotton, and lace one hundred per cent polyamide, and that is the third thing, and it is a page that does one part of its composition properly and leaves out the part that would let anyone check it. The lace gets its own line, at 100% polyamide, and that is genuinely good practice: the lace is a different material from the cloth under it, it shrinks differently, it has different care needs, and here it is declared separately. And the lace is in the product's title, so the brand has declared the fibre of the element the product is named after. This run has now seen this done by two brands, and it should be credited both times. But there is no lace width, no placement and no pattern name, so nobody knows where the insert sits or how wide it is, and a lace insert is a placement decision before it is anything else. And the organic claim has no certifier. Organic cotton is a regulated term in most markets and it is normally backed by a named standard, and the page gives the word and nothing else. This run has met regenerative cotton three times without a programme named once, and now organic cotton without a certifier, and the shape is the same each time: a voluntary or regulated claim with nothing behind it to look up. It is worth putting that beside the care label, because here the page is much better than most and should be credited for it. Wash at 30 degrees, do not tumble dry, iron on low if needed. That is a temperature, which this run has only met once before, plus a tumble prohibition, plus an iron setting, which this run has almost never seen on any garment at any price. And this brand has now published a temperature on three consecutive garments, so it is house practice rather than a one off. There is still no washing with like colours, no washing inside out, no bleach instruction and no shrinkage figure, and a polyamide lace on a cotton cloth is exactly the pairing where a shrinkage number matters, because the two fibres move differently. It is worth ending on the two things a customer would notice first, because they are both on the page rather than in the chart. There are no bullets. This is the first garment in this run with no bullet list at all, so there is no fit word, no length word, no construction list, only prose about a summer wardrobe and a holiday dinner. And there is one photograph. This run has been recording five or six images as standard, and one image on a dress means no back view, on a garment whose title promises a lace insert and whose care depends on where that lace sits. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
Optional upgrades include publishing the certifier for the organic cotton, matching the bodice grade to the brand's other dresses or stating which grade is in use, correcting the length word in the title or moving the length into the midi range, stating the strap setting at which the length was measured and publishing the strap adjustment range, giving the lace width, placement and pattern, quoting the cloth weight in grams per square metre, giving the check size and repeat, adding washing with like colours, washing inside out and a shrinkage figure to sit beside the temperature, adding a size conversion, a model height, a fit word and a bullet list, adding further photographs including a back view, conventional cotton, cotton poplin, cotton lawn and cotton linen, broderie anglaise and eyelet trims, cotton and polyester lace, fixed and tie straps, true midi, knee and mini lengths, size set, colour development, private label, hangtag and care labelling.
