Every way cotton has been treated, collected at last, and the last one is silence, and that is the first thing. Cotton is the most washable fibre examined in this series. It is stronger wet than dry rather than weaker, which reverses the behaviour of everything else discussed here. It cannot felt, as wool can. It does not lose half its strength in water, as viscose does. It does not spot permanently, as silk does. And against all that, this listing gives no care instruction of any kind. This series has been assembling how cotton gets treated, and within a short stretch has now met it several ways. One hundred per cent cotton in poplin and declared machine washable. Ninety eight per cent cotton with elastane and given hand wash cold, which was the first instruction here carrying a condition rather than only a method. Ninety seven per cent cotton given the permissive professional instruction. One hundred per cent cotton velvet also given the permissive instruction, where the pile rather than the fibre justified taking care. And here, one hundred per cent cotton, fully lined, with nothing said at all. So the set runs from the most permissive to complete silence, across what is essentially the same fibre, and adding this page completes it. That deserves stating carefully, because the textbook reading would be that the fibre determines the treatment and this fibre permits washing, whereas what four garments in a row have shown is that fibre rarely determines it. The size chart adds something to this particular instance that none of the others offered. Five consecutive European sizes from thirty four to forty two, which this series argued recently is the clearest indicator available that somebody chose a range deliberately, since random omission rarely leaves several in sequence.
