Eyelet is full of holes, and that is the first thing. Eyelet, also called broderie anglaise, is made by cutting holes into cloth and stitching around each one so it holds its edge. The holes are the pattern. So an eyelet fabric is sheer by construction, not by accident, and no amount of quality control changes that. This one is unlined and in a pale colour, which is the combination that shows the most. We would state plainly that it is sheer and that undergarments will show, because that is true and because not saying it is how a customer ends up feeling misled. It is worth being direct about the contrast with the rest of this series: a good number of the listings we have covered do state this, some of them in exactly those words, and this one does not. Since the sheerness here is unavoidable rather than incidental, the omission is more consequential than usual. We would also offer a slip with it, because selling the answer beats warning about the problem, and a slip is a second sale on top of being the right thing to offer.
