The published size S gives a 24 inch bust against a model with a 33 inch bust, which is nine inches of negative ease. A knit has more give than a woven cloth and a bodycon is meant to be close, so this is not simply impossible, and a fully fashioned knit is knitted to shape which helps it fit. 26% metallic is the first thing, and it is not a trim. We covered a dress earlier in this series with 3% metallic, where the metal is a glint in a cloth that otherwise behaves like cloth. At 26%, one fibre in every four is metal, and metal is not a textile. It does not stretch, so a quarter of this garment is not stretching at all while the viscose around it is, which puts the strain on the viscose and limits how far the whole cloth can go. It does not breathe. It tarnishes over time. It is attacked by the solvents used in dry cleaning, which is awkward given that dry clean is the stated instruction. It cannot be pressed with heat, so a creased garment cannot simply be pressed flat. And when a metallic filament breaks, and they do break, it leaves a short stiff end that scratches. All of that is a quarter of this dress.

Unlined against the skin is the second, and it follows directly. Every one of those properties is sitting directly on the wearer because there is no lining. We have seen this before in this series: a reviewer on a different dress said the fabric was very scratchy and identified correctly that it was because the dress was unlined. The same thing applies here with more force, because a quarter of the surface is metal. Two answers: line it, which costs money and changes the drape, or reduce the metallic percentage, which keeps the look but costs some of the shine. We would ask which matters more to you, and we would say honestly that at 26% unlined this is a garment some customers will not be able to wear for an evening, which shows up as returns rather than as complaints.

Fully fashioned knit and the care are the third. Fully fashioned means the panels are knitted to shape on the machine rather than cut from a length of cloth, which is a better way to make a knit: there is no cutting waste, the edges are finished as they are made, and the garment fits better because the shape is built in rather than forced.
