The first is that the fringe hangs from an asymmetric hem, and fringe is heavy. An asymmetric hem is uneven by design, which means one side carries more fringe than the other, which means the two sides are being pulled down by different weights, which means the hem will drift further out of true the longer it hangs. The second is that this is a strapless dress, so there are no shoulders to carry any of that weight. All of it hangs from a boned bodice that is being held up by nothing but fit and friction. There are no customer reviews on this listing, so there is no score to quote and no complaint pattern to read. There are two problems here that are really one problem, and they need solving together rather than one at a time.

Fringe on an asymmetric hem is the first, and the two make each other worse. Fringe is heavy: it is a dense band of hanging threads, and it pulls downward with real weight. On a level hem that weight is even and the hem stays level. On an asymmetric hem it is not even, because the longer side carries more fringe than the shorter one, so the two sides are being pulled down by different amounts. The hem will drift out of true, and it will drift further the longer the garment hangs. That is before you consider that fringe itself settles and grows slightly under its own weight in the first hours of wear. The practical answer is to weigh the fringe on each side and balance it, or to accept a deliberate asymmetry that is larger than you think you need so that the drift reads as design rather than as a fault. Either way this has to be checked hanging, on a body, after the garment has hung for a day rather than straight off the machine.

Strapless with all that weight is the second, and it is the same problem from the other end. There are no shoulders here, so nothing is being carried by the skeleton: the entire weight of a boned bodice plus a fringed asymmetric skirt is held up by how closely the bodice fits and by friction against the skin. We have raised this on a heavily embroidered strapless dress earlier in this series and the answer is the same, because the physics does not change. The bodice needs boning and a firm interlining so it holds its own shape rather than relying on the wearer, it needs a continuous grip strip rather than a short piece at the front, and the whole garment needs to be weighed and tested on a body rather than judged on a hanger. We would also offer an invisible strap option, because a strapless dress that slides down is a dress the wearer spends the evening holding up, and she will not buy from you twice.

The rayon, the fringe in cleaning and the lining contradiction are the third. 72% rayon with 28% polyester is a cloth that drapes well and creases readily, and rayon is weak when wet, so dry clean is stated and that is reasonable. But fringe and dry cleaning do not get on: the drum tangles it, and fringe that has been tumbled comes out matted rather than hanging. The listing says dry clean rather than dry clean only, which suggests some latitude, and we would test the fringe through cleaning before committing, because a garment whose fringe matts after one clean has a very short life. On the lining, this is the third garment in this series where the listing names a lining fabric and also says unlined.
