The asymmetric button front is the first, and it is a harder problem than it looks. On a normal placket, the buttons pull the two sides of the cloth straight together and the fabric hangs evenly. On an asymmetric placket, the buttons are set off centre, so every button is pulling the cloth slightly sideways as well as together. What that produces is a twist: the placket will try to spiral, and the hem below it will swing to one side. The answer is structure behind the buttons, a proper placket stay or an interlining, so the cloth is held flat and the buttons are only closing it rather than reshaping it. We would also use more buttons than looks necessary, because gaps between buttons on an asymmetric placket are where the twist shows. This is worth budgeting for rather than discovering.

The asymmetric hem is the second, and it interacts with the first. An uneven hem is the one thing on a garment that cannot be checked lying on a table: two dresses can measure identically flat and hang completely differently, and on a hem that is deliberately uneven the difference is the whole design. So every sample has to be hung and checked on a body or a stand, and levelled against itself rather than against the floor. The interaction is the point: if the placket above it is twisting even slightly, the hem below cannot be levelled at all, because the garment is being pulled off true from the top.
