On fit, it states the garment runs large and advises taking a smaller size. We have now seen this same brand do both of these on more than one garment, which tells you it is a policy rather than a one off, and it is a good policy. A retailer who writes those two sentences is giving up some sales today to avoid returns next month, and the returns cost more. It is also worth noticing that these are the two sentences customers most often write about in reviews when they are missing, which is the strongest argument for including them.

The stretch and the fishtail are the second. 19% elastane is a high figure and it is doing real work here: it is what allows a floor length gown to be pulled on over the head and shoulders with no zip at all, and it is what lets it follow the body closely without a single dart. That is an elegant solution and we would keep it. But elastane is also the part that wears out first, and it wears out faster than nylon does: heat, repeated washing and time all reduce its recovery, and a gown that has lost its recovery will not hold the fishtail shape, which is the whole design. We test recovery on the actual cloth and again after washing rather than trusting the percentage, because the number on the specification tells you what went in, not what will still be working in a year.
