That is about fifteen inches of negative ease at the bust. Now, a knit is not a woven, and a heavyweight knit will stretch a good deal, so some of that is explainable in a way it would not be in a plain weave. But fifteen inches is well beyond what a knit does on its own, and there is no elastane anywhere in this cloth, which means the recovery is coming from the cotton and the polyamide rather than from a stretch fibre. The measurements are the first thing. Size S is published at an 18 inch bust, 20 inch waist and 22 inch hips, and the model wearing that size has a 33 inch bust and 34 inch hips. That is roughly fifteen inches of negative ease at the bust. Being fair to it, a heavyweight knit does stretch in a way a woven cloth does not, so part of the gap is real rather than a misprint. But fifteen inches is far beyond what a knit gives on its own, and the composition is cotton and polyamide with no elastane at all. So we do not think this chart describes the garment, and we would not grade from it. We would measure a sample.

The absence of elastane is the second thing, and it matters more than the numbers do. Cotton and polyamide will stretch when pulled and they will partly come back, but without elastane a knit that is worn close to the body will relax and stay relaxed: it bags at the seat and at the knees, and it grows longer over an evening. On a plain column dress there is nowhere to hide that, because there is no seaming, no lining and no structure to hold the shape. On your version we would put elastane into the yarn, or use a yarn with better natural recovery, and we would test growth and recovery over repeated wear rather than only on the first sample.

The cloth, the colour and the finishing are the third. A heavyweight knit is the right choice here, because weight is what makes a plain column hang properly instead of clinging, and it is the main reason this garment works at all. Against that, it is unlined and filed under white by the retailer, and an unlined knit in a pale colour will show more than the same knit in a dark one, so we would test opacity on the actual colour rather than on a swatch. Being straight about one more thing: dry clean is stated for a cotton knit that would in principle wash, so the instruction is almost certainly about shrinkage or about holding the shape rather than about the fibre. We would establish which from a sample, because if it is shrinkage then pre shrinking the cloth is the answer and a washable dress is worth more to your customer.
