The lining is the first thing. The shell is 100% polyester, which does not shrink, and the lining is 100% viscose, which does. It is normally the other way about, with the better cloth outside and the more stable one inside. Here, the lining will shrink against a shell that does not, and because the two are sewn together as a full lining the result is a hem that pulls up and a skirt that no longer hangs level, after the first clean rather than after the first wear. We would test shrinkage on both cloths, compensate the pattern, and tell you honestly that a polyester lining is the safer choice on this garment unless you specifically want the hand of viscose against the skin, in which case we would shrink the lining before cutting.
Taffeta is the second, and its problem is not strength or shrinkage, it is creasing. Heavyweight taffeta takes a crease and keeps it, and the crease shows as a lighter line that no amount of pressing will fully remove. That makes packing the most important step in the whole production: fold it the wrong way and it arrives ruined without anyone having done anything wrong in the sewing. We set the fold, we pack with tissue, and we check a packed sample that has actually been through transit rather than one taken straight off the line. Taffeta also frays at the raw edge, so every seam has to be finished rather than left.
The zip and the shape are the third. A hidden back zip with a hook and eye is the right specification, because the hook takes the strain off the zip and stops it creeping down, which is what happens when a zip alone carries a fitted waistband. On the shape itself, a ten inch waist to hip difference means the flare is real, so the skirt has to be cut to hold it and the waist seam has to be strong enough to carry the skirt weight without rolling. We check the hem hanging rather than on a table, and we confirm the flare after the care cycle rather than only on the first sample. On origin, the reference states made in USA and we manufacture in Dongguan, so we would not claim that origin on your version.
