The length, 50.5 in, is the usable figure and it is a true midi. Our grade below is a proposal, and on a halter the neck carries the weight, so we would check the fit at the neck and under the arm rather than rely on a bust measurement.

The beads on chiffon are the first and by far the biggest risk. Chiffon is fine, light and slippery with very little strength at a seam, and beads add weight to it, which is the combination that tears. The failure is not dramatic at first: the cloth distorts around the beadwork, then a thread gives, and then beads start to come off in the hand. What prevents it is distributing the weight rather than concentrating it, backing the beadwork where it is dense, and attaching it in a way that moves with the cloth rather than against it. We specify the backing and the stitch rather than leaving it to a workshop, develop the beadwork on the actual chiffon, and test it after the care cycle and after packing, which is where this kind of detail most often arrives damaged.

Viscose chiffon is the second. Viscose is weak when wet, it creases, and it will shrink and go out of line if it is not controlled, which on a lined midi shows at the hem first. We test shrinkage before bulk cutting and compensate the pattern rather than hoping, and we specify seam and needle types because chiffon will pucker at a seam if the tension is wrong. Slippage at the seam is the specific test worth doing on a cloth this fine, since a seam that pulls open under load is unfixable once it is worn. We also check the two cloths, shell and lining, behave alike in cleaning or the dress will twist.

The halter and the zip are the third. A halter carries the whole weight of a beaded dress from the back of the neck, so the strap attachment has to be reinforced rather than topstitched and it has to be comfortable, because beadwork is heavy and the pressure is real after an hour. The hidden zip runs through shell and lining, both slippery, and has to go in without puckering.
