The reference publishes one row, size 2 at bust 32 in, waist 26 in, hip 34 in, length 55 in and sleeve 6 in, and it is one of the more coherent rows in this batch, reading as body measurements with a little ease. It is still one row on a 182 cm model, so it says nothing about grading. Our grade below is a proposal, and at 55 in the length matters more than any circumference: on a maxi, the customer's height decides whether it works, so we would plan the length and the hemming allowance deliberately rather than copy the number.

Production and Quality Control

There are no customer reviews on this listing, so there is no score to quote and no complaint pattern to read. We plan from construction, and a lined silk dress with an asymmetric hem has three places where it either works or fails.

The asymmetric hem is the first. A hem that measures level on a table will not hang level on a body, and on a maxi with this much cloth the difference is larger, because the two sides carry different weights. Satin crepe with some weight hangs better than a light cloth would, but it still has to be developed on a form or a fit model and then checked hanging rather than flat. It also has to be specified by both its shortest and longest point, or production will guess. We develop the hem by sample, record both measurements, and check it after the care cycle, since a hem that goes uneven after cleaning will never be right again.

Silk with 7% elastane is the second. The elastane is what makes the dress wearable, and cheap elastane loses its return, which on a silk dress shows as bagging and as a hem that will not recover. Silk itself is unforgiving: it marks with water, it creases, seams in it can slip and pucker, and the wrong needle leaves damage that cannot be undone. We specify the momme and the weave rather than just the fibre, specify the elastane brand rather than accepting a mill substitute, test seam slippage, colour fastness and shrinkage, and test the garment through the care cycle rather than only looking at it off the machine.

The lining is the third, and on a silk maxi it is structural. It gives the dress weight and an opaque fall, it takes the strain at the seams so the silk does not, and it has to behave exactly like the shell: two cloths that shrink differently will twist the dress and pull the hem out of line, which is one of the most common faults in a lined silk garment and one that only appears after the first clean. We match the lining to the shell before production, attach it so it carries load rather than hanging separately, and check the hem hanging rather than on a table. The side zip is tested through both layers without puckering. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
