The reference publishes one row, size 36 at bust 28 in, waist 26 in, hips 37 in and length 68 in, and we would not build your chart from it. A 28 in bust with a 37 in hip on a 179 cm model is not a body measurement, and the most likely reading is a close-fitting gown measured flat. The length, 68 in, is the usable figure and it is a true floor length, which matters: on a gown this long, the customer's height decides whether it works more than any circumference does, and we would plan the length and hemming allowance deliberately. Our grade below is a proposal, and with a halter tie there is real fitting tolerance at the neck, which is worth using.

Production and Quality Control

There are no customer reviews on this listing, so there is no score to quote and no complaint pattern to read. We plan from construction, and a lined silk halter gown has three places where it either works or fails.

The halter is the first and the one carrying the most risk. A halter carries the whole weight of a floor-length gown from the back of the neck, and silk has no stretch whatsoever, so nothing gives: if the attachment is not engineered, the strain goes straight into the seam and the neckline, and a gown that fails at the halter fails in public. It also has to be comfortable, because the weight sits on the neck for hours. We reinforce the attachment properly rather than topstitching a strap on, distribute the load, test it on the body and under movement rather than on a form, and check the tie holds once knotted rather than slowly loosening through an evening.

Silk itself is the second. It is beautiful and it is unforgiving: it marks with water, it creases, it loses strength when wet, seams in it can slip and pucker, and the wrong needle or thread will leave damage that cannot be undone. We specify the momme and the weave rather than just the fibre, test for seam slippage, colour fastness and shrinkage, use the right needles and threads, and test the garment through the care cycle rather than only looking at it off the machine. Shrinkage is controlled before bulk cutting with the pattern compensated, because silk that shrinks unevenly will twist a lined gown permanently.

The lining is the third, and on a gown like this it is structural rather than cosmetic. It takes the strain at the seams so the silk does not, it gives the gown weight and an opaque fall, and it has to behave exactly like the shell: two cloths that shrink differently will twist the gown and pull the hem out of line, which is one of the most common faults in a lined silk dress and one that only shows after the first clean. We match the lining to the shell before production, attach it so it carries load rather than hanging separately, and check it after the care cycle. Hems are checked hanging rather than on a table, and every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
