The metallic yarn is the first production risk. Metal fibre does not stretch, and it kinks rather than creasing, so a metallic knit has less give than its composition suggests and it takes marks that cannot be pressed out. It is also abrasive, so it wears needles and machine parts, and it can feel scratchy depending on how it is spun. At 14% in a lightweight knit the drape changes too, and we would test how the cloth behaves in wear and in the care cycle rather than assume. We specify the yarn construction rather than just the percentage, test abrasion at the seams, and test the care instruction rather than copying it.

The open front is the second. An opening down the front of a knit has no zip and no structure holding it, so it will gape or fall open differently on every body unless the edges are engineered to sit, and on a floor-length garment the weight below pulls the front open further. We engineer the edges rather than simply cut them, finish them so they do not curl or roll, and test the front on the body and moving rather than on a standing form. The back tie is what gives the only adjustment, so it has to hold once knotted and be anchored, and we test it through repeated tying and untying.

Colour and making are the third. A multicolour knit on a dark base has to be consistent batch to batch, or two production runs of the same style will not match, and that is a real risk with a yarn-dyed stripe or pattern. We approve a colour standard and check production against it rather than against a photograph, test colour fastness including on the dark base under a metallic yarn, and test snag resistance since the dress is unlined and worn over swimwear.
