The reference publishes one row, size S at bust 28 in, waist 28 in, hips 44 in and length 51.5 in, and we would not build your chart from it. Bust and waist the same at 28 in with hips at 44 in is not a body measurement, and the most likely reading is a fitted bustier bodice over a full skirt, which tells us about the silhouette and nothing about sizing. The length, 51.5 in on a 182 cm model, is the usable figure. Our grade below is a proposal to be confirmed on a sample, and the practical point is that on a bustier dress the bodice is the size decision and the skirt is not, so we would fit the bodice first and set the skirt separately.

Production and Quality Control

There are no customer reviews on this listing, so there is no score to quote and no complaint pattern to read. We plan from construction, and a bustier dress in a mixed-fibre poplin has three things that decide whether it works.

The bustier bodice is the first. A bustier has to hold its shape and stay put without being uncomfortable, and that means structure rather than just a fitted bodice: shaping, and if it is boned, the type, the number, where the channels run and how the ends are capped so they cannot work through the cloth. A bustier bodice that is only fitted will gape at the top edge or roll, and a customer will notice both. We specify the structure, fit the bodice on the body rather than on a form, and test it sitting and moving rather than standing.

The blend is the second, and it is the interesting part of this dress. Cotton, linen, nylon and elastane all shrink and move differently, so a blend like this has to be tested as a cloth rather than assumed from its parts: we test shrinkage and how it behaves in water before bulk cutting and compensate the pattern, and we check the hand after washing rather than only off the loom, because cotton linen blends soften in a way that can change the character of a crisp poplin. We also test the elastane holds its return after washing, since 4% is doing real work here.

Then the finish. Unlined and in a mid-tone colour, opacity is checked in the actual colourway, and seams inside are finished cleanly because there is no lining to hide them. The hidden back zip has to run through a crisp poplin without puckering, and it has to take the strain of a fitted bodice, so the closure is backed rather than relying on the seam alone. If you want the recycled content to mean something on the label, we would ask for GRS documentation rather than take the percentage at face value, and every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
