The reference publishes one row, size S at bust 32 in, waist 52 in, hip 56 in and length 31.5 in, and we would not build your chart from it. A shift is cut loose, but a 20 in jump from bust to waist is not a shift either, so these are most likely garment measurements of a very full shape rather than body measurements. The length, 31.5 in on a 183 cm model, is the usable figure. Our grade below is a proposal to be confirmed on a sample, and the right way to develop a shift is to set the ease deliberately rather than inherit it: how loose it is, is a design decision, and it is the difference between relaxed and shapeless.

Production and Quality Control

There are no customer reviews on this listing, so there is no score to quote and no complaint pattern to read. We plan from construction, and an embroidered white cotton shift has three things that decide whether it sells twice.

White cotton with a full lining is the first. A white dress that shows its lining, its pockets or its seams through the cloth is returned and remembered, and no amount of good sewing rescues it. We check opacity on the body and on the light box in the actual white you run, and we make sure the lining does not show as a shadow at the hem or under the armholes. Shell and lining here are both cotton, which helps, but shrinkage still has to be tested and controlled before bulk cutting, and the hem checked level after washing rather than only off the line.

The embroidery is the second. Embroidery in the cloth means holes as well as thread, and two things follow: the cloth is weaker where it is embroidered, so seams and stress points need to avoid or reinforce it, and the embroidery changes how the fabric behaves in washing, which is how a dress comes out with puckered motifs and a wavy hem. We test the embroidered cloth rather than the base cloth, check that the motifs do not pucker after washing, and confirm the thread is colourfast and does not shrink differently from the ground.

The square neckline and the pockets are the third. A square neckline front and back has to sit flat and stay square: if the corners are not reinforced they will pull round after washing and the neckline will read as a mistake, and at the back it is the detail people see when she walks away.
