The reference publishes one row, size S at bust 30 in, waist 26 in, hips 36 in and length 66 in. As a body measurement that is coherent for a slim frame, and it is the most usable published row in this batch, but it is still one row measured on a 179 cm model, so it tells us nothing about grading and the length will need a heel or a hem on a shorter customer. Our grade below is a proposal to be confirmed on a sample. The practical point is that with a tie at the neck the fit is set at the bust and underbust rather than at the waist, and the hardware sits at the front where any fitting error is most visible, so that is where we would concentrate the fitting.

Production and Quality Control

The hardware is the first. A metal piece on a satin dress is doing structural work, holding the neckline and the drape, and it is also the heaviest thing on the garment, so how it is attached matters more than how it looks. Poorly backed hardware pulls the cloth into a pucker, works loose, and eventually tears out, and on satin the pull is visible from across a room. We specify the backing and the attachment, test the weight against the cloth, and check the finish does not tarnish, snag the satin or react with skin.

The halter tie is the second. It carries the weight of a floor-length dress from the neck, and on satin, which has little natural stretch, the attachment points need reinforcing or they will distort the neckline. The tie has to hold once knotted and still be easy to undo, and the ends need finishing. We test tying, untying and wearing rather than only how it looks on a form.

Satin is the third. It shows every press mark, it can go shiny under a hard iron, it snags, and on a slippery cloth seams can slip open under strain, which is a fault no amount of pressing hides. We test pressing as a process, test seam slippage, and check snag resistance. Because the dress is unlined and in a bright colour, opacity is checked in the actual colourway. The hidden back zip has to run smoothly without puckering a satin seam, the hem has to be checked hanging rather than on a table, and every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
