The reference publishes one row, size 2 at bust 32 in, waist 26 in, hips 40 in, length 33.5 in and sleeve 11 in. As a body measurement that is coherent, a small waist against a fuller hip, but a single row still tells us nothing about grading, and it was measured on a model who is 182 cm, so the length will land differently on most customers. Our grade below is a proposal to be confirmed on a sample. Two practical notes: with both a button front and a side zip, the fit is decided at the waist and the hip rather than at the bust, so if you are choosing where to spend fitting time, spend it there; and white poplin is the least forgiving colour in the range, which makes the lining decision, described below, more important than usual.

Production and Quality Control

The two closures are the first. A button placket on a shirt dress has to sit without gapping, and the classic place it fails is across the bust, where a placket that pulls open is both visible and unfixable by the wearer. That is why the invisible side zip matters: it takes the strain of getting the dress on so the placket does not have to. We set the placket and the zip together, reinforce the zip ends, test dressing rather than only standing, and check the placket lies flat when the wearer reaches.

Opacity and lining are the second, and on a white poplin dress they are not optional. A white dress that shows its lining or its pockets through the cloth is returned, and no amount of good sewing rescues it. We check opacity on the body and on the light box in the actual white you run, and we make sure the lining does not announce itself as a shadow at the hem or under the armholes. The shell and the lining also have to behave the same way in water: a cotton shell over a polyester lining will shrink differently and the dress will twist after washing, so we match shrink behaviour or pre-shrink both.

Then the details that carry a shirt dress: the collar has to be constructed so it stands and does not curl after washing, the pockets have to be sized to a real phone and reinforced so the side seam does not bow when they are loaded, and the hem has to be checked level after washing rather than only off the line. Cotton blend poplin is tested for shrinkage before bulk cutting and the pattern is compensated. Every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
