Two things are worth deciding early. First, a bodycon knit is fitted by stretch as much as by measurement, so we would set the fabric stretch and recovery alongside the chart rather than after it, and we would test the garment on the body rather than trusting numbers. Second, the reference size range stops at M, which is a narrow run for a maxi dress; if your market needs more, we would grade and re-fit rather than simply scale, because a long close-fitting dress changes shape as well as circumference as it gets larger.

The knit itself is the first risk. Compact knit has to be compact: if the stitch is too open or the yarn too light, the dress will show every line underneath and will bag at the seat and the knee by the end of a day, which is the failure mode customers describe as the dress going baggy. We specify the stitch construction and the GSM rather than accepting a swatch, and we test recovery after wear as well as after the care cycle rather than only on the hanger.

Viscose is the second. It is a cellulosic fibre: it is weaker when wet, it can shrink, and it can grow out of shape. With polyester and elastane alongside it the blend is more stable, but only if it is handled properly, so we relax and pre-shrink before cutting, control shrinkage by test, and check the garment after washing instead of only off the line. Then the fit and finish that decide whether a close-fitting dress looks expensive. Unlined and close fitting means opacity has to be checked in the actual colourway and in daylight. Seams must stretch with the cloth or they pop, and on a long column any twist in the side seam is visible, which usually points to the knit not being relaxed before cutting rather than to bad sewing. Hems are checked hanging, pilling and snagging are tested, and every bulk shipment gets a measurement report against your approved chart.
