In production these are sequin evening dresses, cut in black. Sequin fabric is a mesh base with the sequin applied, so it has a direction and a nap. Every panel must be cut the same way, and every seam has to be taped or it will ladder. A sheath evening dress is straight and close, with a walking vent at the back and a lining that has to be cut a few millimetres shorter than the shell so it does not hang below the hem.

Black shows every loose thread and every dust mark on the fitting table, so the final inspection has to include a lint pass.

What Has To Be Specified

• Shell: Sequin, hand and weight approved on a physical swatch - imported evening cloth rarely matches a screen.

• Bodice structure: say whether the bodice is boned, fused, or soft. This single line decides the fit, the price and the packing.
• Lining: state bodice lining, skirt lining and whether the skirt is bagged out at the hem.
• Closure: name the type and position - invisible zip, lace-up back, or covered button placket.
• Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the fit model. A Gulf 2XL is not a European 2XL.
• Care: dry-clean-only is normal here; if the trim cannot survive solvent, say so before the label is printed.

Beading is quoted per panel and bought per gram. A 15% allowance sounds generous until the third size run lands.

The first sample passes on the form and fails on a body: the waist sits high, the armhole cuts, or the sweep is 4 cm short. Fit on a real model before approving anything.

Two rolls of the same colour name will not match. Buy one lot, keep a roll reference with the order, and cut the whole run from it.

• Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, corset lace-up or button placket, each with its own sample requirement.
