In production these are long taffeta evening dresses in the royal direction. A long evening dress runs to the ankle or the floor, which makes sweep and hem finish the design. A floor-length hem needs a horsehair or a weighted tape, or it will collapse in wear. Taffeta is crisp and it remembers. Every pin hole stays, so the sample has to be handled like the bulk will be. A ball gown carries a boned bodice and a skirt built from layers: tulle or organza over a crinoline, with the volume set by the number of layers rather than by the fabric weight.
A royal direction means the dress carries its decoration centrally - a jeweled bodice, a defined waist and a skirt with controlled volume, nothing asymmetric.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: Taffeta, hand and weight approved on a physical swatch - imported evening cloth rarely matches a screen.
- Length: Long, with the finished length and the hem allowance stated in centimetres, measured on the wearer, not on the form.
- Block: Ball Gown bodice, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Colour: name the exact tone and send a swatch. In this category a photo is not a colour reference.
- Bodice structure: say whether the bodice is boned, fused, or soft. This single line decides the fit, the price and the packing.
- Lining: state bodice lining, skirt lining and whether the skirt is bagged out at the hem.
- Closure: name the type and position - invisible zip, lace-up back, or covered button placket.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the fit model. A Gulf 2XL is not a European 2XL.
- Care: dry-clean-only is normal here; if the trim cannot survive solvent, say so before the label is printed.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production

Pressing decides the finish. Satin and taffeta take a needle mark in a second, and no amount of QC takes it out afterwards.
Two rolls of the same colour name will not match. Buy one lot, keep a roll reference with the order, and cut the whole run from it.
The hem is where a cheap build shows. A 3 cm hem with a clean catch-stitch reads expensive; a 1 cm overlocked hem reads fast fashion.
