African Jacquard African Clothing Slit Dress
When a buyer asks us to develop “african jacquard african clothing slit dress”, the first conversation is never about price. It is about what the garment has to survive: a wedding season, a church calendar, a two-week festival run, or a shoot with eight hours of wear in it.
In practical terms this is a dress in jacquard built for women. Jacquard carries its pattern in the weave, so there is no print repeat to match — but there is a motif repeat, and the bodice has to be cut so the motif centres on the front panel. A dress is the anchor of this category: one garment, one fit decision, and a silhouette that has to hold from the bust line to the hem without a waist seam to hide behind.
The size run is the first commercial decision: a four-size run sells a test order, a ten-size run sells a container.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: jacquard, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: dress, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Detail: a slit.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production
Jacquard carries its pattern in the weave, so there is no print repeat to match — but there is a motif repeat, and the bodice has to be cut so the motif centres on the front panel.
A dress is the anchor of this category: one garment, one fit decision, and a silhouette that has to hold from the bust line to the hem without a waist seam to hide behind.
Trims are quoted per piece and bought per roll. A 15% trim allowance sounds generous until the third size run lands.
Grading is where the money disappears. Every detail that is placed by eye on the sample has to be measured on the pattern, or the size run drifts.
The hem is where a cheap build shows. A 3 cm hem with a clean catch-stitch reads expensive; a 1 cm overlocked hem reads fast fashion.
Options We Can Build To
- Sizing: a four-size test run, a standard eight-size run, or a graded run to your own spec sheet.
- Detail variations on the a slit: scaled up, scaled down, or replaced with a plain panel at a lower price point.
- Packing: flat-fold with tissue, hanger-ready, or individual polybag with a branded insert.
- Lining: unlined, half-lined or fully lined — the last one changes the hand and the cost together.
- Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, button placket or lace-up, each with its own sample requirement.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
