Bride and Groom African Kaftan Boubou Side Pockets
When a buyer asks us to develop “bride and groom african kaftan boubou side pockets”, the first conversation is never about price. It is about what the garment has to survive: a wedding season, a church calendar, a two-week festival run, or a shoot with eight hours of wear in it.
In practical terms this is a kaftan boubou in ankara wax print built for brides and grooms. Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron. A kaftan boubou is a wide, straight body with a generous sweep and a neckline opening rather than a fitted closure. The fit lives in the shoulder and the neck drop; everything below that is volume.
Bridal and groom sets are ordered months ahead and fitted twice, so the sampling calendar, not the price, is usually the constraint.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: ankara wax print, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: kaftan boubou, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production

The hem is where a cheap build shows. A 3 cm hem with a clean catch-stitch reads expensive; a 1 cm overlocked hem reads fast fashion.
Two rolls of the same colour name will not match. Buy one lot, keep a roll reference with the order, and cut the whole run from it.

Options We Can Build To
- Packing: flat-fold with tissue, hanger-ready, or individual polybag with a branded insert.
- Lining: unlined, half-lined or fully lined — the last one changes the hand and the cost together.
- Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, button placket or lace-up, each with its own sample requirement.
- Trim: embroidered, beaded or plain, with the density quoted per panel rather than per garment.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
