Family Matching African Jumpsuit with High-Slit
Most requests we quote against “family matching african jumpsuit with high slit” arrive with a photo, a target price and very little else. The photo is the easy part; the specification is where the money is saved or lost.
In practical terms this is a jumpsuit in ankara wax print built for the whole family. Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron. A jumpsuit is a fit problem before it is a style problem: torso length, crotch depth and rise all have to be right at the same time, and each of them grades differently.
Family matching means one print across four or five size blocks, which is a lot of markers from one lot of cloth.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: ankara wax print, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: jumpsuit, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Detail: a high front slit. A high front slit needs a facing or a bound edge, and it needs the slit stop reinforced — that is where every one of these returns begins.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production
Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron.
A high front slit needs a facing or a bound edge, and it needs the slit stop reinforced — that is where every one of these returns begins.
A jumpsuit is a fit problem before it is a style problem: torso length, crotch depth and rise all have to be right at the same time, and each of them grades differently.
The hem is where a cheap build shows. A 3 cm hem with a clean catch-stitch reads expensive; a 1 cm overlocked hem reads fast fashion.
The first sample usually passes on the mannequin and fails on a body: the waist sits high, the armhole cuts, or the sweep is 4 cm short. Fit on a real model before you approve anything.
Trims are quoted per piece and bought per roll. A 15% trim allowance sounds generous until the third size run lands.
Options We Can Build To
- Lining: unlined, half-lined or fully lined — the last one changes the hand and the cost together.
- Detail variations on the a high front slit: scaled up, scaled down, or replaced with a plain panel at a lower price point.
- Packing: flat-fold with tissue, hanger-ready, or individual polybag with a branded insert.
- Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, button placket or lace-up, each with its own sample requirement.
- Sizing: a four-size test run, a standard eight-size run, or a graded run to your own spec sheet.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
