Bride and Groom African Suit Blazer Gathered Waist
When a buyer asks us to develop “bride and groom african suit blazer gathered waist”, the first conversation is never about price. It is about what the garment has to survive: a wedding season, a church calendar, a two-week festival run, or a shoot with eight hours of wear in it.
In practical terms this is a blazer in ankara wax print built for brides and grooms. Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron. A structured blazer is a tailoring build — canvas or fusible, a roll line, a shoulder pad and a sleeve that hangs clean. In African print it is also a pattern-matching exercise.
Bridal and groom sets are ordered months ahead and fitted twice, so the sampling calendar, not the price, is usually the constraint.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: ankara wax print, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: blazer, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Detail: a gathered waist. A gathered waist needs the gather ratio fixed on the sample — much above 2:1 and the waist starts to look bulky under a belt.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production
Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron.

A structured blazer is a tailoring build — canvas or fusible, a roll line, a shoulder pad and a sleeve that hangs clean. In African print it is also a pattern-matching exercise.
Print placement is the quiet cost driver. Every seam that crosses the motif has to be planned in the marker, and that planning has to be repeated for each size.
Two rolls of the same colour name will not match. Buy one lot, keep a roll reference with the order, and cut the whole run from it.
Grading is where the money disappears. Every detail that is placed by eye on the sample has to be measured on the pattern, or the size run drifts.
