Kids and Teens Tribal Print African Maxi Dress
Most requests we quote against “kids and teens tribal print african maxi dress” arrive with a photo, a target price and very little else. The photo is the easy part; the specification is where the money is saved or lost.
In practical terms this is a maxi dress in tribal print built for kids. Tribal prints are usually rotary-printed onto a cotton or a cotton-blend base, which means the repeat is long and the colour is consistent across a lot but not across lots. A maxi dress runs to the ankle or the floor, so hem length, sweep and the way the fabric falls are the whole design. Two centimetres of extra sweep changes the silhouette completely.
Kids' sizing has to pass a safety review as well as a fit review, which means trims, cords and small parts all need a documented pull test.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: tribal print, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: maxi dress, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production
Tribal prints are usually rotary-printed onto a cotton or a cotton-blend base, which means the repeat is long and the colour is consistent across a lot but not across lots.
A maxi dress runs to the ankle or the floor, so hem length, sweep and the way the fabric falls are the whole design. Two centimetres of extra sweep changes the silhouette completely.
Two rolls of the same colour name will not match. Buy one lot, keep a roll reference with the order, and cut the whole run from it.
The hem is where a cheap build shows. A 3 cm hem with a clean catch-stitch reads expensive; a 1 cm overlocked hem reads fast fashion.
Grading is where the money disappears. Every detail that is placed by eye on the sample has to be measured on the pattern, or the size run drifts.
Options We Can Build To
- Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, button placket or lace-up, each with its own sample requirement.
- Sizing: a four-size test run, a standard eight-size run, or a graded run to your own spec sheet.
- Trim: embroidered, beaded or plain, with the density quoted per panel rather than per garment.
- Shell swap: the same block in a lighter or heavier version of the base cloth, priced separately.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
