Birthday Party African Suit Blazer
When a buyer asks us to develop “birthday party african suit blazer”, the first conversation is never about price. It is about what the garment has to survive: a wedding season, a church calendar, a two-week festival run, or a shoot with eight hours of wear in it.
In practical terms this is a blazer in ankara wax print built for women, aimed at evening parties. Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron. A structured blazer is a tailoring build — canvas or fusible, a roll line, a shoulder pad and a sleeve that hangs clean. In African print it is also a pattern-matching exercise.
The size run is the first commercial decision: a four-size run sells a test order, a ten-size run sells a container. Evening is where the trim and the sheen earn their cost, and where a buyer can justify a higher unit price.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: ankara wax print, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: blazer, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production
Ankara is a wax-printed cotton, normally 100-120 gsm. The hand is slightly crisp, so it holds a peplum, a pleat or a stand collar without much interlining, and it presses flat after a hot iron.
A structured blazer is a tailoring build — canvas or fusible, a roll line, a shoulder pad and a sleeve that hangs clean. In African print it is also a pattern-matching exercise.
Grading is where the money disappears. Every detail that is placed by eye on the sample has to be measured on the pattern, or the size run drifts.
Trims are quoted per piece and bought per roll. A 15% trim allowance sounds generous until the third size run lands.
Print placement is the quiet cost driver. Every seam that crosses the motif has to be planned in the marker, and that planning has to be repeated for each size.
Options We Can Build To
- Trim: embroidered, beaded or plain, with the density quoted per panel rather than per garment.
- Sizing: a four-size test run, a standard eight-size run, or a graded run to your own spec sheet.
- Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, button placket or lace-up, each with its own sample requirement.
- Packing: flat-fold with tissue, hanger-ready, or individual polybag with a branded insert.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
