Women's All Season George Fabric African Mermaid Gown
When a buyer asks us to develop “women's all season george fabric african mermaid gown”, the first conversation is never about price. It is about what the garment has to survive: a wedding season, a church calendar, a two-week festival run, or a shoot with eight hours of wear in it.
In practical terms this is a mermaid gown in george fabric built for women, scheduled against all-season programmes. George is a heavy, high-sheen woven used for formal Igbo and Delta ceremonial wear. The weight is the point: it holds a wide sleeve and a structured shoulder without any help from interfacing. A mermaid gown is fitted from bust to knee and flared below it. The flare only works if the knee line is right, and the knee line only works if the stretch of the shell is agreed first.
The size run is the first commercial decision: a four-size run sells a test order, a ten-size run sells a container. An all-season programme only holds together if the shell is a stable, repeatable base cloth rather than a seasonal novelty.
What Has To Be Specified
- Shell: george fabric, weight and hand approved on a physical swatch, not on a screen.
- Block: mermaid gown, fitted on a real model at the middle size before grading.
- Colour: name the colourway and give a reference swatch. “African print” is not a colour; a lab dip checked under D65 and TL84 is.
- Lining: state unlined, half-lined or fully lined. This single line changes the hand, the packing and the cost.
- Closure: name the type and the position. “Back zip” is not a specification; “invisible zip, CB, 55 cm, self-fabric guard” is.
- Sizing: give the size run, the grade rule and the target fit model. A four-size test and a ten-size container run are two different projects.
- Trim and hardware: bead, cord, eyelet or feather, with a colour reference and a pull-strength requirement for anything on a children's style.

Where This Style Goes Wrong In Production
George is a heavy, high-sheen woven used for formal Igbo and Delta ceremonial wear. The weight is the point: it holds a wide sleeve and a structured shoulder without any help from interfacing.
A mermaid gown is fitted from bust to knee and flared below it. The flare only works if the knee line is right, and the knee line only works if the stretch of the shell is agreed first.
Two rolls of the same colour name will not match. Buy one lot, keep a roll reference with the order, and cut the whole run from it.
Grading is where the money disappears. Every detail that is placed by eye on the sample has to be measured on the pattern, or the size run drifts.
The first sample usually passes on the mannequin and fails on a body: the waist sits high, the armhole cuts, or the sweep is 4 cm short. Fit on a real model before you approve anything.
Options We Can Build To
- Closure: invisible zip, exposed zip, button placket or lace-up, each with its own sample requirement.
- Trim: embroidered, beaded or plain, with the density quoted per panel rather than per garment.
- Sizing: a four-size test run, a standard eight-size run, or a graded run to your own spec sheet.
- Packing: flat-fold with tissue, hanger-ready, or individual polybag with a branded insert.
Pre-production sample approval, in-line inspection during cutting and sewing, and a final AQL inspection before packing, with measurement reports and photos shared before shipment.
